This work deals with performance enhancement of the permanent magnet brushless direct current (PMBLDC) motor drive. The ac-dc conversion of electric power is usually required for the BLDC motor drive, nevertheless it causes many current harmonics and poor power factor at the input ac mains. There is a need for the DC-DC converter for the mitigation of current harmonics and to increase power factor at the input ac mains, so cuk converter is used as a power factor correction converter. The PMBLDC motor drive is analyzed in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment and relevant hardware outputs are presented. © 2015 IEEE.
