A high speed electroless nickel plating bath has been developed with p-tolyl thiourea and diphenyl thiourea as accelerators for electroless nickel plating process. The acceleration effect of the compounds was determined by weight gain and electrochemical method. Both compounds improved the rate of deposition to considerable extent by adsorbing strongly on the steel surface. The adsorption of the accelerators was found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The Arrhenius plot and quantum mechanical parameters further justified the impressive performance of accelerators through their effective adsorption on metal surface.

Quantum mechanical approach for electroless plating process

An attempt has been made in this work to develop copper coatings with enhanced corrosion and hardness properties on ABS plastics prepared by FDM-RP process. The increase of corrosion resistance of copper electrodeposited coatings in sea water medium claimed that these coated plastics can find as substitute for metal parts used in automobile components. Hardness values measured by Vickers hardness tested validated the improved mechanical properties. The presence of micro roughness and improved tensile strength values signify that the coatings have firmly absorbed on ABS plastics. Metallization of PLA plastics prepared by FDM-RP process and evaluation of corrosion and hardness characteristics

The metalization of iron powders was studied by autocatalytic copper plating based on copper methane sulphonic acid and new activation process uses TiB2 and chloroplatinic acid. The deposition of copper particles on iron powders was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) studies. Diallyl thiourea and 2-mercapto benzotriazole were found as stabilizers in autocatalytic bath to obtain copper coatings on iron powders. The stabilization effects of thio compounds were screened by weight gain, anodic, cathodic polarization, and impedance methods. The influence of adsorption of the stabilizers on iron powder was established by quantum mechanical indices like EHOMO, ELUMO, energy gap (ΔE), and dipole moment (µ).
