This paper concentrates on reducing the power loss by a recent approach in reconfiguration of radial distribution network using an evolutionary algorithm called Cultural Algorithm. It makes use of the population space interacting with the objective function continuously for producing an improved result. This algorithm is said to be optimal when voltage magnitudes of all the buses are equal. Optimal configuration is concluded by considering the least value of power loss. The suggested algorithm is implemented on standard 33 bus and 16 bus test systems. Simulation results and voltage profile graphs of real world distribution feeders is shown at the end to substantiate the efficiency of the method.
