The reaction of various substituted 24-dichloroquinolines with methyl 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-methyl-5-oxo-1,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydroquinoline-3-carboxylate has been carried out in the presence of powdered K2CO3 as a mild and efficient base at controlled temperature leading to novel 2-chloroquinoline-based polyhydroquinoline with high regioselectivity. All the synthesized compounds were characterized through IR, NMR, and mass spectral data. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.
