Robust Speed Control of an Induction Motor Drive using Wavelet-fuzzy based Self-tuning Multiresolution Controller

The purpose of this work is to present an adaptive sliding mode Luenberger state observer with improved disturbance rejection capability and better tracking performance under dynamic conditions. The sliding hyperplane is altered by incorporating the estimated disturbance torque with the stator currents. In addition, the effects of parameter detuning on the speed convergence are observed and compared with the conventional disturbance rejection mechanism. The entire drive system is first built in the Simulink environment. Then, the Simulink model is integrated with real-time (RT)-Lab blocksets and implemented in a relatively new real-time environment using OP4500 real-time simulator. Real-time simulation and testing platforms have succeeded offline simulation and testing tools due to their reduced development time. The real-time results validate the improvement in the proposed state observer and also correspond to the performance of the actual physical model. © 2017 by the authors. Licensee MDPI.

Real-Time Analysis of a Modified State Observer for Sensorless Induction Motor Drive Used in Electric Vehicle Applications

The exponential increase in electrical energy demand in the current scenario makes the world to turn towards the use of renewable energy sources naturally. The best way to utilize the renewable energy sources is in the form of microgrid. Microgrids are having multiple distributed energy sources and energy storage elements located nearer to the consumer. This paper implements a Fuzzy Logic Controller that efficiently manages the loads in a grid operated Microgrid. In this paper, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) with fuzzy logic controller is used for a grid operated microgrid constituted by solar system and battery. The system consists of Photo Voltaic (PV) system with MPPT controller, Battery with Buck boost converter, Inverter, critical and non-critical loads and utility grid. The simulation results prove that the efficiency of the fuzzy logic controller for different irradiation level with different load conditions has been improved. © 2017 The Authors. Efficient Power Management of Grid operated MicroGrid Using Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC)

Consumer power demand is an ever increasing component in distribution networks. A solution to meet this bridge between conventional source availability and load demands is using microgrids. The microgrid is an assortment of loads and distributed generators (DGs). The dynamicity of microgrids is a key challenge for protection engineers. The purpose of this paper is to develop a central protection system (CPS) for a microgrid with fuzzy based monitoring and graph algorithms based protection control features. Hence the CPS provides suitable overcurrent relay coordination to the microgrid which may cause minimum portion of the network disconnection. © 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Fuzzy Decision and Graph Algorithms Aided Adaptive Protection of Microgrid

Biogeography is defined as the investigation of dispersion of biological species in ecosystem and it can analogous to the mathematical optimization problems in the field of engineering, medical science, economic science, sport, business enterprise, town future planning and so on. The proposed Improved Biogeography Based Optimization (IBBO) algorithm is roused on fundamental basis of scientific mechanisms of actual biogeography. This paper purports the IBBO technique to identify the optimal power rating and position of distribution generation (DG) in radial distribution networks. Since the distribution line loss minimization plays a vital role in economic operation of power system, hence the distribution line active power loss is elite as the target fitness (objective) function for the proposed optimization problem. The simulation studies are implemented in MATLAB software for IEEE 33-bus and IEEE 69-bus radial distribution test networks. Results incurred from the purposed approach prove that better active power loss reduction and improved node voltage profiles when compared with other existing methods available in the literature. © 2017 IEEE.

Improved biogeography based optimization technique for loss minimization in power distribution networks

Wavelet-fuzzy speed indirect field oriented controller for three-phase AC motor drive – Investigation and implementation

This paper presents a hybrid wavelet-fuzzy-based multi-resolution (MR) controller for robust speed control of induction motor. In the proposed wavelet-fuzzy-based MR controller, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is used to decompose the error between the actual speed and set speed in to different frequency components. A self-tuning fuzzy logic is used for online tuning of the controller parameters. The proposed controller has the ability of meeting the speed tracking requirements in the closed loop system. The complete field oriented control scheme incorporating the proposed wavelet-fuzzy-based MR controller is investigated theoretically and simulated under various dynamic operating conditions. Simulation results are compared with that of standard proportional-integral controller, proportional-integral-derivative controller, fuzzy controller and neuro-wavelet controller. Simulation results validates that the proposed hybrid wavelet-fuzzy-based MR controller is robust and is more suitable for high performance applications. © Institution of Engineers Australia 2012.
