The role of electrostatic interactions for the domain shapes of Langmuir monolayers of monoglycerol amphiphiles was discussed. It was found that the characteristics features of the condensed monolayer phase, such as domain morphology, crystallinity, and lattice parameter, were very different for these monoglycerols. The dipolar repulsion energies for the amphiphilic monoglycerols were also calcultaed for different mutual orientations between the dipoles. The results show that the the variations in headgroup molecular structure alter drastically the domain shape of monolayers.
