Abstract
A huge amount of people suffering from dementia and similar cognitive disabilities have been reported to be missing every year. As a result, the person suffering from dementia frequently requires monitoring of his/her present location. Thus, to improve the quality of life of such people and their families, a reliable and economic tracking system is needful. The purpose of this proposed system is to integrate the GSM and GPS systems with a microcontroller for real-time tracking of dementia patients in order to make sure their safety when they go outside of their house. The global coordinates of a location of the patient will be sent to the Android app in caretaker's mobile phone. After receiving the latitude and longitude, global location of the patient can be viewed on Google Maps. The prototype of this real-time tracking system sends the coordinates of a location of the patient to the caretaker's mobile device. © 2017 IEEE.
