English Language Teaching and its effect on learning is the focus area of researchers. Researchers in ELT are experimental in nature that demands objectivity and accuracy. Most of the ELT researchers use scientific analysis to arrive at the conclusions whether it reject or accept the hypothesis. Here the statistics is an unavoidable tool and helps the researcher to state their contributions. The proper analysis of the data alone can provide the true result. It demands proper knowledge of statistical techniques and tools. This paper goes through the role of statistics in research, various statistical techniques used to arrive at the conclusions and the various tools which offer these techniques according to the need.
