Metal matrix composites are currently increasing more attention towards them in various fields like automobile, aeronautical, ceramic industry owing to their superior properties as compared to their base metals and alloys. These composites can be consolidated using various Manufacturing techniques like powder metallurgy and liquefaction route. Among these the stir casting process gives desired properties with any ceramic addition in low cost and more flexibility than other processes. This study intends to enhance the properties such as hardness and strength of the AA7075/T6 base matrix by supplementing with multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) in the percentages of 0-0.75 with the incremental step of 0.25%. Further to evaluate the progress in properties of these composite by heat treatment, the specimens with solution heat treatment is compared with the original specimen. The results showed that up to 0.5% addition of the MWCNT improves the composite tensile and hardness properties. Moreover, by heat treatment only tensile properties showed linear increment and no significant increase was recorded in the hardness properties. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
