Synthesis and property evaluation of hot extruded AA2024 –MWCNT Nanocomposites

Materials possessed with unexplored potential like, carbon allotropes have inexorably marched its way into the field of research. The current study focuses on the addition of various combinations of MWCNT in enhancing the mechanical properties of AA 2024 composites. The composite is processed through the ultrasonic liquid processor followed by compaction, sintering (Inert gas atmosphere) and hot extrusion. Micro hardness and X-ray diffraction analysis are done on developed composites. Further, tensile strength was determined on them according to ASTM standards in Instron Universal Testing Machine. Improvement in the strength and possible reasons for crack initiations and fracture surface were extensively analysed to study the effect of reinforcement's addition and its combinations in the aluminium alloy matrix. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
