Reaction of 3-substituted isocoumarins (1a-h) with excess of sodium borohydride in methanol gave the corresponding 2-(2-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl)ethanol derivatives (2a-h). Antimicrobial activities of synthesized compounds were measured, using Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Proteus mirabilis) and Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus).

An efficient and regioselective O-alkylation of amides with a variety of electrophiles in the presence of silver nanoparticles is reported as part of our recent research on building blocks for synthesis of natural products. The nano-silver catalyst initiates O-alkylation of the amides by heteroalkyl halides. Reaction of equimolar 3-acetyl-6-chloro-4-phenylquinolin-2(1H)-one and 2-chloro-3-(chloro-methyl)quinolines in the presence of silver nanoparticles in DMSO solution under reflux condition leads to the formation of 1-{1-[2-chloroquinolin-3-yl)methoxy]-6-chloro-4-phenylquinolin-3-yl}ethanones. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2011.

Regioselective O-alkylation: synthesis of 1-{2-[(2-chloroquinolin-3-yl)methoxy]-6-chloro-4-phenylquinolin-3-yl}ethanones

A series of pyrazole-4-carboxylates have been synthesised using indium bromide catalyst and the cyclisation of respective 3-substituted- isoquinolinylhydrazines 1 into their corresponding ethyl-2-(ethoxymethylene)-4, 4,4- trifluoro-3-oxobutanoates 3 in ethanol solvent under ultrasonic irradiation at 90°C for 30 min. The regio-selective cyclisation products were efficiently provided by indium bromide catalyst and are confirmed by nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy-nuclear magnetic resonance (NOESY-NMR) studies. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2011.

Indium bromide catalysed, ultrasound-assisted, regio-selective synthesis of ethyl-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1-(3-substituted-isoquinolin-1-yl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylates

An efficient 2-(1H-benzotriazole-1-yl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyluronium tetrafluoroborate (TBTU)-mediated synthesis of 5-(trifluoromethyl)-N-alkyl-1-(3-phenylisoquinoline-1-yl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamides

Iron-oxide nanoparticles were obtained using chitosan templates and their crystalline character and particle size have been confirmed through powder x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy measurements. The particle sizes were found to be 10-25 nm. The diversified chalcones 2 were reacted with 1-hydrazinylisoquinoline 1 in the presence of iron-oxide nanoparticles to the corresponding pyrazolines 3a-j in high yield and purity. Iron-oxide nanoparticles mediated cyclization of 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-hydrazinylisoquinoline to 1-(4,5-dihydropyrazol-1-yl)isoquinolines

AbstractA new series of 1,2,3-selenadiazoles containing an aryl or a 3-arylisoquinoline sulfanyl moiety at carbons 4 and 5, respectively, was prepared by cyclization of the respective semicarbazones in the presence of selenium(II) oxide and tetrahydrofuran at 70–75°C. Semicarbazones required for the reaction were obtained from 2-((3-arylisoquinolin-1-yl)sulfanyl)-1-phenylethanones, I, by a reaction with semicarbazide hydrochloride in ethanol/water mixture and potassium acetate base.

Facile synthesis of 3-aryl-1-((4-aryl-1,2,3-selenadiazol-5-yl)sulfanyl)isoquinolines

The title compound, C23H16ClNOS, exhibits dihedral angles of 11.73 (1) and 66.07 (1)°, respectively, between the mean plane of the isoquinoline system and the attached phenyl ring, and between the isoquinoline system and the chloro-phenyl ring. The dihedral angle between the phenyl and chlorophenyl rings is 54.66 (1)°.

1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-2-[(3-phenylisoquinolin-1-yl)sulfanyl]ethanone

Five derivatives of thioisocoumarin bearing aromatic and nonaromatic ring systems have been synthesized and characterized to unravel the importance of interactions due to the presence of a sulfur atom in generating packing motifs in the crystalline state. Apart from the well characterized interactions like C-H⋯S, a CS⋯π interaction is found in one of the case studies. The importance of such interactions in crystal structure packing along with routine C-H⋯π and π⋯π interactions is examined in the context of overall stability in the molecular assembly. The CS⋯π interactions in comparison to CO⋯π interactions have been analyzed using the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD). © 2009 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
