A series of o-substituted benzophenones and phenylethanones was prepared by efficient method involving 3-substituted isocoumarins and phenylmagnesium bromide and other Grignard reagents. The reaction was completed in presence of dry ether under dry ice conditions in just few minutes with good to excellent yields.
