Resource-Efficient Technologies

The green method for metal nanoparticles has been gaining more interest owing to its low cost and safe nature. The Carissa edulis (C. edulis) dried fruit extract was utilized for the synthesis silver oxide nanoparticles (Ag2O NPs). The microwave extraction process was optimized using Box-Behnken Design (BBD). The good optimization was found to be 400 W, 70 °C and 30 mL of solvent. We have observed 0.17 g of extract yield from this method. The green synthesized Ag2O NPs were analyzed by various analytical techniques. The absorption peak around 420 nm confirms the formation of Ag2O NPs. Further, the SEM and TEM results showed cube and ellipsoid shape with 1.5–2 nm. The Photocatalytic of Ag2O NPs showed 95.8{\%} of degradation of Congo red with rate constant of 0.0233 min−1 and the antibacterial activity of Ag2O NPs was showed high zone of inhibition (10 mm) against E. coli. Therefore, C. edulis extract mediated Ag2O NPs can be used to carry further research in environmental science and biotechnology.

Biomolecules Derived from Carissa edulis for the Microwave Assisted Synthesis of Ag2O Nanoparticles: A Study Against S. incertulas, C. medinalis and S. mauritia

Current report in this study, using plant-derived nanoparticles and green synthesis has become the emerging area of research. It was originated to enhance our insight on the strength and environment impact of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NP). The particles were synthesized using Passiflora caerulea leaf extract and characterized by using UV-visible, XRD, TEM, SEM, EDAX, FTIR, AFM analysis. The silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)are known to be one of the most versatile inorganic nanoparticles with its application in the treatment of human pathogens, and we focused the nanoparticles toxicity. In the result, we found a maximum zone of inhibition Trichophyton rubrum 104.648 ± 0.008 when compared with the control. The mean standard deviation for the silver nanoparticles which was available for the size was nearly 23.94 ± 8.67 nm. Besides, the toxicity was life stage dependent. The zebrafish embryos/larvae are additionally mentioned lethal concentration of silver nanoparticles 80 μg/ml and instructed during this study as a good protocol for evaluating the potential toxicity of nanoparticles. © 2019

Toxicology evaluation and antidermatophytic activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized using leaf extract of Passiflora caerulea

Lagenaria siceraria – synthesised ZnO NPs – a valuable green route to control the malaria vector Anopheles stephensi

Zinc oxide, an established inorganic metal oxide in nanoparticles form exhibits tremendous anti-bacterial activity. The present study focuses on determining the anti-bacterial activity of green synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). Results clearly validate the effective synthesis of spherical shaped nanoparticles with average size range of 60–80 nm. SEM and EDAX data buttresses the results obtained by XRD pattern in terms of size and purity. ZnO NPs exhibited dose-dependent anti-bacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and the IC50 value was calculated to be around 20 μg/mL. Growth kinetics study was conducted in the presence of nanoparticles which demonstrated the bacteriostatic effect of ZnO NPs. The study recommends the potential use of ZnO NPs in industries like food, pharmaceutical, agriculture, cosmetic industries for its anti-bacterial activity. © 2019 The Authors

Phyto-assisted synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using Cassia alata and its antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli

The advance of reliable and eco-friendly strategies for the development of nanoparticles is a fundamental key to the discipline of nanotechnology. Nanoparticles have been continuously evaluated and have been used in many industrial applications for a decade. In particular, the role of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) has received a great interest because of various properties such as UV filter properties and photochemical, antifungal, high catalyst, and antimicrobial activities. Because of the high rate of poisonous chemicals and the extreme surroundings used within the chemical and physical methods, the green techniques have been adopted using plants, fungi, bacteria, and algae for the synthesis of nanoparticles. Therefore, this paper considers various green synthesis methods to provide the evidence of ZnO NP role to several applications, and in addition, biomedical applications and toxic effect were reviewed. Therefore, the paper used various secondary sources to collect the relevant review articles. From the findings, the green route of synthesis is rather safe and eco-friendly when compared to physical and chemical means of synthesis. On the other hand, its biomedical applications in this sector are increased day by day in various processes including bioimaging, drug delivery, biosensors, and gene delivery. With respect to its toxicity properties, ZnO NPs can act as smart weapons against multiple drug-resistant microorganisms and as a talented substitute for antibiotics.

A Review on Green Synthesis, Biomedical Applications, and Toxicity Studies of ZnO NPs

Synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using plant leaf extract against urinary tract infection pathogen

The use of plant extract to synthesize nanoparticle has been considered as one of the eco-friendly method. Additionally, it is a strong alternate for conventional methods which includes chemical and physical approach. In this study, microwave assisted extraction of Carissa edulis (C. edulis) at 70 °C and 400 W was used to extract the secondary metabolites. Further, the metabolites were used as capping agent and Zn (NO3)2 as the metal precursor to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). UV–Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR, XRD, SEM and HR-TEM were used for the characterization of nanoparticles. The Surface Plasmon Resonance around 358 nm from the UV–Vis spectroscopy result represents the ZnO NPs formation. The FT-IR confirms the presence of functional groups that acts as the capping agent for the synthesis of ZnO NPs. The crystalline structure of nanoparticles is revealed in the XRD result, morphology showed by SEM results and the size of the ZnO NPs were predicted by HR-TEM. We have carried out the photocatalytic degradation of Congo red at 365 nm in photo reactor using ZnO NPs. The result from the photocatalytic degradation Congo red showed rate constant is (− k) 0.4947 with 97{\%} of degradation. This is our first attempt on the C. edulis extract on ZnO NPs preparation and Congo red dye degradation revels that ZnO NPs exhibit good photocatalytic property.
