A series of dioxouranium(VI) complexes has been synthesised with an ester ligand, namely pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester (PDA). They are characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, molecular weight measurements and IR studies, to have the general composition UO2X2·(PDA)2 (X = Br-, I-, NCS-, ClO-4 and NO-3). The infrared spectral studies indicate that the ligand is coordinating to the metal ion through carbonyl oxygen atoms and Pyridine ring nitrogen atom. NMR spectral studies of the ligand and one of the representative complexes has also been studied.
