The present paper investigates the characteristics of well deposited surface coating of tool steel. By the right choice of surface coating processes, process parameters, coating material and coating properties like coating thickness and possibly multiple layer configurations, a mechanically well functioning coating can be obtained. MoS2 was used as a source material in thermal evaporation process to deposit a thin film of Molybdenum of thickness in submicron on high speed steel substrates and their coating characteristics were analyzed. © 2006-2014 Asian Research Publishing Network (ARPN).
