Usage of AODV and AOMDV protocols in perceiving black hole attacks in a MANET

Abstract
Acquiring security is the primary factor in a Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) to ensure transmission of data packets in a safe manner. Each node present in a MANET has its own behavior which makes the security task as challenging; As MANETs are prone to numerous attacks due to its specific features like dynamic behavior and selfconfigured nature and Infrastructure less architecture. Black hole attack is one amongst the various attacks that simply deletes any packet rather than forwarding it. Black hole attack plays a major role in sending fake routing information which privileges an optimum route to make the other nodes transmit data packets through the malicious node, which could drop the traffic in the next step. Black hole attack is a well-known attack in a MANET which utilizes the network layer and drops most of the packets by shrinking its performance. In the view of security point, Ad-hoc networks have no definite area of protection. The Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing mechanism is stated as a routing technique in ad hoc networks which is highly preferred due to its less routing traffic overhead. This AODV protocol is mostly used in perceiving the black hole attacks in a MANET. Yet, the performance of AODV’s minimum hop routing wi l l b e degrading significantly when the principal system has routes which have high hop count and throughput. In this connection, a revised AODV scheme named as AOMDV is used. Through this paper, we recommend a methodology based on AODV, AOMDV routing protocols for resolving black hole attacks in a MANET. © 2016, International Journal of Pharmacy and Technology.
