Abstract
English language is considered as most eminent and a global language. Use of standard statistical tools and software in ELT research has given birth to quality researches with more accuracy and perfection in data collection, classification and assessments. These tools have paved way for futuristic qualitative and quantitative researches which will help the learners to acquire language skills in a systematic manner. The future of English language will be more demanding for the second language learners and teachers as ICT tools will play a significant role in skill development. This research reveals the impact of application of ICT (Information and communication and technology) tools to improve listening skills among the tertiary level, educationally backward students at Engineering Colleges in Salem district. A comparison with the traditional way of improving listening skills was also conducted to evaluate the effectiveness. The empirical study conducted helped to understand students and teachers familiarity and awareness towards the use of ICT tools in developing listening skills. The finding of this study revealed the positive impact of the application of ICT tools among students from rural and regional background of studies. © Institute of Advanced Scientific Research, Inc..
