Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is a key component in 5G, where proximate devices can communicate each other without the help of base station (BS). Handover is one of the challenges for D2D communication, which may degrade the quality of service (QoS). In this work, a vertical handover activate condition (VHAC) algorithm is used to minimize the effect of connection breakdown and to maximize the usage of wireless local area network (WLAN). The simulation results prove that the probability of connection breakdown is minimized in the case of proposed algorithm than the other conventional algorithms. © 2017 IEEE.
