Power system load growth is increasing at a faster rate than the increase in the transmission capability. Transmission congestion occurs when the transmission system is incapable of servicing a load request even if the generation stations are capable of providing it. This paper demonstrates the operation of Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor for optimization of transmission and thereby, reducing the transmission congestion. A genetic algorithm is developed to optimize a factor, Performance Index (PI) for the contingency analysis, involving both the location and control of TCSC. These devices enhance the transfer capability, minimize the total power loss in a system thereby, improving the system efficiency.

A TCSC Placement for Transmission Congestion for Minimizing the Power Loss

An efficient iodine-catalyzed approach to synthesise 1,3-thiazine has been developed, and this synthetic methodology is economical and uses cheap and readily available starting materials. This is the first example of constructing 1,3-thiazine via a sequential thia-Michael addition and cyclodehydration. © The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Domino condensation–heterocyclisation reactions: iodine catalyzed four component synthesis of 1,3-thiazine

A simple and efficient approach has been developed for the synthesis of highly substituted 3-amino-2-thiohydantoins using cyclododecanone as a protecting group and thiosemicarbazide, chloroacetic acid and substituted benzaldehyde as reactants. This high yielding (79-96%) protocol is a milder alternative to the traditional method that uses unprotected thiosemicarbazide. It was identified that the preferred pathway is the deprotection of 3-amino-2-thiohydantoins followed by the attack of chloroacetic acid on a secondary nitrogen with subsequent formation of the Knoevenagel product and its reaction with imine leading to the final product. © The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Cyclododecanone as a recyclable protecting group for the synthesis of highly functionalized 3-amino-2-thiohydantoins from conventional starting materials

Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy is becoming an increasingly important part of the world’s renewable energy. A grid-connected solar PV system consists of solar cells for energy extraction from the sun and power converters for grid interface. In order to get effective integration of the solar PV systems with the electric power grid, this paper proposes a simple model of a photovoltaic (PV) system used as dispersed generation. Solar power generation using PV technology is a evolving technology for which there is fast growing renewable-based market due to rise of generation cost in the conventional way of power generation (diesel generators). As industrial customers become more energy conscious and environmentally aware, the installation of Sub- Station (SS) connected photovoltaic solar panels for and medium scale electricity generation special for industries having their own SS is expected to increase. However, the issue of quality of the electrical supply is as equally important as adopting sustainable energy, Voltage levels in medium voltage (MV–11kV) and low voltage (LV–415V) distribution systems. First, a detailed model of a photovoltaic plant is developed and simulated under the MATLAB/Simulink software environment using the futures of SimPowerSystems (SPS). It comprises the modeling of solar panels, DC/DC power converter, DC/AC power converter and control systems associated. Its behavior for several disturbances within a simple distribution electrical network is analyzed. Then in the aim to make this more user friendly, a flexible and accurate Regional PV simulation tool (called RPVST) is developed. The PV system is modeled and simulated under the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The accuracy of simulation results has been verified using a 250 Wp PV experimental set-up. © Research India Publications.

Modeling of photovoltaic energy conversion system with integration to substation

A green trend and efficient method for the synthesis of N-substituted γ, δ and ε-lactam derivatives has been developed through one pot multi-component reaction under environmentally benign reaction conditions using FeCl3 as a green catalyst with high atom economy. The present green synthetic protocol shows fascinating properties such as enhanced yield in solvent-free conditions, with high reaction rate, easy workup and absence of column chromatography and also avoids the use of ligands or additives. The versatility of the reaction has been ascertained by using various substituted benzaldehydes, anilines and homologues of lactams. © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

A green approach for the one-pot multi-component synthesis of N-substituted γ, δ and ε-lactams involving C–N bond formation catalyzed by FeCl3

The title compound, C 21H 20O 2S 2, forms a propeller-shaped structure with the tetra-hedral C atom as the central hub and meth-oxy-benzene and phenyl residues as radiating blades. Short C - H⋯π contacts are observed.

1-Methoxy-4-({[(4-methoxyphenyl)sulfanyl](phenyl)methyl}sulfanyl)benzene

In this paper, a method based on bacterial foraging optimization algorithm (BFOA) is proposed for distribution network reconfiguration with the objective of loss minimization. A novel model to simplify a distribution network is presented. The feeder reconfiguration problem is formulated as a non-linear optimization problem, and BFOA is used to find the optimal solution. According to the characteristics of distribution network, some modifications are done to retain the radial structure and reduce the searching requirement. Test results of a 33 bus sample network have shown that the proposed feeder reconfiguration method can effectively ensure the loss minimization, and the BFOA technique is efficient in searching for the optimal solution. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Power system reconfiguration and loss minimization for an distribution systems using bacterial foraging optimization algorithm

The three-component one-pot synthesis of highly functionalized piperidine derivatives was carried out by condensing 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds with aromatic aldehydes and aniline using a catalytic amount (10 mol%) of LaCl 3·7H 2O in methanol at room temperature. The main features of current protocol include easy work up, mild reaction conditions, good yields and high atom economy. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2012.

In the proposed system restoration and reconfiguration process is achieved in 16 bus system and simultaneously load flow analysis is performed before and after the fault and the same is verified in MATLAB. Power system restoration, reconfiguration and optimization using Field Programmable Gate Array

Load flow or power flow is the solution for the normal balanced steady-state operating conditions of an electric power system. It became an essential prerequisite for power system studies as it is used to ensure that electrical power transfer from generators to consumers through the grid system is stable, reliable and economic. In this paper, the topology based load flow studies are made available in the MATLAB-Graphical User Interface (GUI) environment which will bring the load flow studies more user friendly. Using this tool, extensive graphical analysis has also been made. Standard IEEE test systems are taken as an input data and the results are plotted. This can also be extended for any analysis where load flow results are used as an input.
