An indigenous reactor with a capacity to hold a maximum temperature of 1,000°C was developed for investigating the co-pyrolysis of Juliflora (JF) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE). The length of the reactor was 1.49 m and width was 0.49 m. A screw feeder of 1.5 m, with a 0.051-m circular pipe, delivered the feed along the length of the reactor. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis reported that the optimum temperature of LDPE and JF was 450 and 600°C, respectively. Fast pyrolysis is conducted to investigate the effect of oil quality and quantity from JF biomass and LDPE. Different blend of the feedstock 1:0, 1:1, 1:2, 2:1, and 0:1 of JF and LDPE was tested for co-pyrolysis. Experiments were conducted at varying temperature of 450, 500, 550, 600, 650, and 700°C. The optimum heating rate was found to be 10°C min−1. The elemental analysis of the biomass and plastic was performed. JF and LDPE at the blend of 1:2 yielded maximum liquid content. Increase in ratio of LDPE increased the calorific value and lowered oxygen content in the bio-oil. The pyrolytic oil is characterized and analyzed by GC–MS and FT-IR. The calorific value of the oil produced was found to be 27.14 MJ kg−1. The energy and exergy of JF, LDPE, and blend of both were 76.45, 92.15, 101.25, 73.48, 80.46, and 93.97 MJ, respectively. © 2019 Taylor &amp; Francis Group, LLC.

Co-pyrolysis of Juliflora biomass with low-density polyethylene for bio-oil synthesis

Lemon peel oil is one of the renewable and biodegradable biofuel for diesel engine applications due to its low viscous nature. This study aims to observe the performance and emission characteristics of a common rail direct injection diesel engine at various fuel injection strategies under different loading conditions. An open type electronic control unit is used to control the fuel injection timing, injection rate and split injection at various injection pressures. In this research work, 20% lemon peel oil-diesel blend (by volume) is injected at a pressure of 400 bar, 500 bar and 600 bar with 10% pilot injection by volume and the results are compared with diesel fuel at same injection conditions. Further, pilot injection quantity of lemon peel oil blend is varied by 20% and 30% of total volume of fuel injected at 600 bar injection pressure. Finally, the experimental work is carried out in common rail direct injection diesel engine fuelled with lemon peel oil blend under 10% cooled exhaust gas recirculation condition. The study reveals that the brake thermal efficiency is improved with increase in injection pressures and pilot injection rates. However, this trend has been changed during 10% EGR addition for lemon peel oil blend operation at 30% pilot injection rate. The combustion characteristics are improved for lemon peel oil blend for 600 bar injection pressure with 20% and 30% pilot injection rates compared to 10% pilot injection rate. The higher pilot injection rate has shown significant reductions in carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and smoke emissions. However, the emission results are reversed with 10% exhaust gas recirculation at 600 bar injection pressure of lemon peel oil blend. There is a significant reduction in NOx emission for low injection pressure of lemon peel oil blend at 10% pilot injection rate. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

A novel study on the effect lemon peel oil as a fuel in CRDI engine at various injection strategies

Internet-of-Things (IoT) denote a developing era of networking that connects devices to one another as well as with the rest of internet to smarter our lives. IoT in healthcare applications enables medical devices are receiving a request from external devices like smartphones, smartwatches, and smart glass in order to monitor and control the implanted medical devices. These requests are creating several security issues in the form of malicious data packet intrusion into medical devices. Many approaches were introduced to avoid device level attack known as Denial of Service (DoS) attack but these approaches are failed to protect medical devices from hacking. This paper aims to introduce a packet filtering device level firewall to monitor and filtering malicious data packets. The experimental results are shown that proposed mechanism accepts only legitimate data can enter and control the implanted medical devices. The proposed method achieves 20 to 40 percent faster performance than existing work also consumes less energy which is more significant for resource-constrained devices like IoT devices. Preventing Unauthorized Access to Internet-of-Things Medical Devices Using Packet Filtering Device Level Embedded Firewall

Temporal video segmentation is the primary step of content based video retrieval. The whole processes of video management are coming under the focus of content based video retrieval, which includes, video indexing, video retrieval, and video summarization etc. In this paper, we proposed a computationally efficient and discriminating shot boundary detection method, which uses a local feature descriptor named local Contrast and Ordering (LCO) for feature extraction. The results of the experiments, which are conducted on the video dataset TRECVid, analyzed and compared with some existing shot boundary detection methods. The proposed method has given a promising result, even in the cases of illumination changes, rotated images etc.

Review on Communication Security Issues in IoT Medical Devices

Knowledge-based user authentication technique is a common and easy access control mechanism. But people are uninspired while choosing a healthy password or PIN. It increases the probability of guessing attacks. In this situation, to minimize these attacks, keystroke dynamics is a good choice; here users are not only identified by the password but their typing style is also accounted for. Keystroke dynamics is the method of analyzing typing pattern on a computer keyboard or touch screen and classifying the users based on their regular typing rhythm. It is a behavioral biometric characteristic which we have learned in our life and relates to the issues in human identification/authentication. This is the method where people can be identified by their typing style similar to hand writing or voice print. Being noninvasive and cost-effective, this method is a good field of research. But the performance of keystroke dynamics is less than other popular morphological biometric characteristics like face print, iris, and finger print recognition due to high rate of intraclass variation or high Failure to Enroll Rate (FER). So, this technique demands higher level of security. In this chapter, we are interested in investigating the integration of the soft biometric features, gender and age group, with the existing keystroke dynamics user authentication systems proposed by [1-3]. © 2018 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
