In IoT scenario, wireless sensor nodes are acquiring data from remote location and transmitting it to the centralized node which process the data. Energy scavenging from the ambient RF source is the reliable, low cost approach and it keep node alive. Since available power is around −30 dbm for ambient RF, effective usage of battery by the node is important. In this paper, a power distribution method based on NASH bargaining solutions is proposed to efficiently use the nodes with the least available. Also the available antenna technologies are reviewed and optimal design is suggested for maximum extraction of energy from the low power RF signal. Using this approaches battery-powered sensor nodes can meet the design goals of life span, total price, special power perceiving, transmission coverage and consistency. The proposed method is validated with other reported methods and it has been found that the proposed NASH bargaining method significantly improve the energy efficiency, network life time and throughput rate.

Calculation of Shielding Effectiveness of an Enclosure with Arbitrary Shaped Apertures using Hybrid Approach

Background/Objectives: Next generation heterogeneous network will comprise multi access systems with multiple service support. Call management scheme is necessary to provide low call dropping probability for high priority services. Call management scheme for mixed cells (i.e., a 4G cell with embedded WLANs) increase cellular system capacity and reduce dropping probability of cellular-to-WLAN vertical handoff calls. Methods: We propose an efficient call management scheme which considers all possible vertical handoff scenarios and provides the maximum usage of WLAN. A blocked request in WLAN is taken back by the overlaying cellular system, if channels are available. Several existing models do not reflect the effect of configuration of neighbor cells which is important for cell planning for a cellular operator. Findings: Call management scheme is executed by diverting every request of WLAN that was blocked, to cellular system. Improvements/ Applications: The proposed call management scheme shows that new call and handoff call dropping probability is decreased when compare with Complementary-WLAN scheme (C-WLAN) and also increases in system throughput.

An Efficient Call Management Scheme for Cellular/ Wi-Fi Mixed Cells in Next Generation Networks

This paper presents a circuital approach to design a Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSSs) spatial filter. Spatial filter is used to extract the electromagnetic waves in spaces. A conducting sheet perforated with apertures or an array of periodic metallic patches constitute FSSs and it is usually designed to provide four standard spectral response: low-pass, High-pass, band-pass and band-reject. Circuital approach is used to develop a better understanding of FSSs and to attain correct model. A band-pass filter with frequency range from 2GHz-8GHz and band-stop filter with frequency range from 6GHz-13GHz was designed using FSSs. Properties of FSSs are evaluated through simple and accurate equivalent circuit. Simulation results for both filters are produced using Agilent ADS software. © 2015 IEEE.

Circuital approach to design FSS spatial filter

The shielding effectiveness (SE) of a metallic enclosure with double-layer frequency selective surface (DLFSS) has been calculated using a transmission line theory-based analytical formulation. The DLFSS layer placed on the front and back sides of the enclosure consists of a Greek cross aperture array. The equivalent circuit method and an empirical method are used to calculate the impedance of the Greek cross FSS. Then, the SE is calculated for various incidence and polarization angles. Calculated results are compared with the measured and numerical simulation results. © 2015 IEEE.

Transmission Line Approach to Calculate the Shielding Effectiveness of an Enclosure With Double-Layer Frequency Selective Surface

In this paper Transmission Line Matrix Method (TLM) is applied to model the Shielding Enclosure of Wireless Portable Digital Device (operating band 2.40 – 2.48 GHz) which is made up of Frequency Selective Surface (FSS). The FSS is madeup of Jerusalem cross etched from the conductor sheet. The main objective of the enclosure design is to provide high transmittance in the required wireless band and provides high shielding outside the band. The important factor influencing the performance of the FSS is the polarization. The influence of polarization on Shielding Effectiveness of the enclosure is calculated. This approach can be used to design Shielding Enclosure, used for equipments. TLM method is used since, among the numerical methods available its best suitable time domain method for EMC application which consume very less computation time. © Research India Publications.

Polarization independent frequency selective bandpass shielding enclosure

Power is considered to be as major concern in today's technology. Several research works are carried in order to minimize the usage of electric power. In this paper, an efficient automated power saving system was designed using Spartan-6 FPGA for minimizing the power wastage in educational institutions. Mostly, the students forget to switch off the electrical appliances, when they leaving out of classroom. The power wastage can be completely eliminated by using this Automated Power Saving System. Efficient method for controlling electric power by automated monitoring system using FPGA

While designing the metallic enclosure for the electromagnetic shielding of electronic circuits, apertures on the enclosure walls become unavoidable for the purpose of signal cabling and ventilation. The Conventional Enclosure design involves a repeated procedure where the hole position and locations are varied until the Shielding Effectiveness (SE) requirements met. In this paper Double Layer Frequency Selective Surface (DLFSS) is used to construct the walls of the SMPS Enclosure which involves simple procedure. The FSS constructed from Greek Cross type apertures, etched on the conducting walls without any dielectric substrate (to enable ventilation) act as a spatial band-pass filter. Even though the design objective of the EM Shielding Enclosure is all-stop filter characteristics, the ventilation requirement impose the enclosure to allow certain band of EMI to pass. So the DLFSS is designed to pass a band of EMI at 15GHz which is acceptable to satisfy the EMC and ventilation requirements. DLFSS and Conventional SMPS enclosures are modelled and shielding effectiveness is calculated and compared. © 2011 IEEE.

Application of Double Layer Frequency Selective Surface for SMPS shielding

TLM method has been applied to calculate the Shielding Effectiveness (SE) of rectangular and cylindrical enclosures with rectangular and circular apertures. To understand the influence of the aperture topology in the SE, the dimensions of aperture are varied and SE of rectangular aperture has been compared with the circular counterpart. The resonant modes inside slotted enclosure have been compared with the enclosure without slot and the behavior has been found similar to that of resonant cavity. This modeling will be helpful in understanding and to mitigate the coupling of EM radiation that is coupled into the enclosures. This is accomplished by identifying the resonant modes of enclosure cavity with apertures. ©2009 IEEE.
