According to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report says that the Indian banking sector is expected to become fifth largest in the world by 2020. Being the third largest economy and with relatively lower domestic credit to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) percentage, there is a huge scope of growth for the banking sector. Banking is a service industry, and therefore, the quality of customer service plays a pivotal role in the prosperity of any bank. Good customer service leads to better customer relationship, higher customer satisfaction, increased customer loyalty and ultimately profitability. Private banking sector are now well capitalised to meet the stringent capital norms and also to lead the next leg of growth in the banking system. Now-a-days all private banks play a vital role in retail banking and provide lot of core banking services to all their urban and rural customers to maintain customer loyalty, retention and providing cent percent customer satisfaction and this will give more profitability. But there are some evidence that few private banks do not give importance to their retail customers with regard to maintenance of loyalty and customer satisfaction. In this regard, this empirical research paper will address the customers’ opinion on satisfaction and loyalty of a private sector bank in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. © Research India Publications.

The budget presented by the finance minister of India, usually at the end of February every year is a major event in India. Since the budget will contain policy statement by the government, it will have both favourable and unfavourable impact on companies, individuals, business and economy. Hence, the share prices will reflect the reactions of investors’ sentiments for the policies of the government as contained in the budget. Speculation with regard to the budget will influence business activity. In the past, budget always contained some duties on many products which resulted in an increase in price after the budget. “Budget will invariably push up the prices of many commodities” was the generally held view in India. This paper tries to analyse the volatility in BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty during various budgets presented by various Finance Ministers of UPA and NDA Governments. © Research India Publications.

Financial risk modelling in vehicle credit portfolio

This paper reports on an exploratory research work carried out aiming to identify the barriers in the usage of traditional medicines by the holders of the knowledge. The focus is on the usage of the traditional medicines by the homogenous people, Malayali tribe community at Shervaroy hills of Eastern Ghats. Semi-structured interviews were conducted among the tribe community of the area. Where the knowledge has been passed on from generations making the traditional medicinal knowledge strongly imbibed in their culture, the research findings divulged the reasons as to why in spite of having immense knowledge on traditional medicines these tribe community are opting for codified from of medicines. This report also explored the understanding of older generation in the context of holders of the traditional medicinal knowledge among the Malayali tribe community. The conclusion supports the implementation of existing policies stringently with recommendations so as to draw closer towards the three objectives enshrined in the Convention of Biodiversity and Biological Diversity Act, 2002. This paper contributes to the policy makers, pharmaceutical companies, non-governmental organizations and the holders of traditional medicinal knowledge so as to collaborate, in the process, protecting and promoting the traditional knowledge in medicinal plants.

Getting the message across

Domestic energy demand is determined by many factors like, demographic variables, socioeconomic variables, employing energy efficient appliances, activities of the consumers and so on. In the present world, energy usage and energy efficiency are on increasing concern. The purpose of this paper is to determine the student's level of knowledge on energy and environment. This study also examines the environmental concerns of the students. The results show that students have fairly high knowledge on environment but, limited knowledge on energy. In addition the study also indicates that the students have high concern towards the environment. The main findings of this study reveal that there is a need to enhance the student's awareness and knowledge of energy-saving measures.
