This manuscript gives a complete survey on commonly used reference current extraction techniques in Single-Phase Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF). A single-phase shunt active filter usage is increased considerably over the past few years in commercial and educational buildings to improve power quality leads to achieve customer satisfaction. The performance of a shunt active power filter depends largely on the extraction of harmonic current. To reproduce the exact inverse image of harmonics currents, various reference current extraction techniques like PI control algorithm, PQ Theory, DQ Theory, and other techniques are discussed. And the primary advantages and disadvantages of power filters are compared. Eventually, the selection of DC-Link capacitor voltage and capacitance rating and filter inductance of the SAPF was expansively appraised in detail. Almost all these research work-related papers have been thoroughly examined, classified and listed for quick reference. It will offer a clear vision of the state-of-the-art investigation advances in this field and then some suggestions are put forward for future research. Overview of reference current extraction techniques in single phase shunt active power filter

Grid-connected inverters are the critical components of distributed generation system because of their function as an efficient interface between renewable energy sources and utility. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the use of Transformerless Inverter (TI) for low voltage single phase grid-connected Photovoltaic (PV) system due to high efficiency, low cost, small size, and weight compared to those with a transformer. This research review emphases on the TI topologies, which are categorized into four primary groups based on the structure, leakage current, and device characteristics. Various configurations like H5, H6, Highly Efficient and Reliable Inverter Concept (HERIC) and Neutral-Point Clamped (NPC) are offered, associated and analyzed based on leakage current in the topology, component count and ratings, benefits and difficulties. © 2020, Research Trend. Single-phase transformer-less inverter circuit configurations for photovoltaic applications

It is essential to understand the quality of power being delivered to the industries that have equipment sensitive to power disturbances. Implementing IoT based power quality monitoring systems is a widespread practice in industries to prolong the process without any interruption. IoT based system looks very costly due to the data accumulation process which is carried over a long period requiring large data storage. Hence the paper proposes an intelligent power quality algorithm that alters data accumulation process more efficient by managing the power quality event data logging with pre-and-post value. The proposed system logs the drive's mechanical quantities along with the power quality event data in Firebase cloud, which limits the space requirement and save time in analyzing the power quality events. Moreover, the power quality standards could be chosen by the end-users. Overall, the developed system is faster, economical and accurate and easier to operate, which can be used for many real-time applications. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

IoT embedded cloud-based intelligent power quality monitoring system for industrial drive application

Visible light communication (VLC) is one of the recent technology which is green friendly, efficient, and user affable which bypasses the RF technology. VLC is not regulated by radio regulation law. The technology concentrates on low cost, low power consumption, and also creates a hazardless environment. The light is mainly considered as source, air is the medium, and a photodetector or a phototransistor acts as a receiver. It utilizes LED which is reliable, consumes low power, and efficient instead of incandescent lamps and fluorescent lamps. This paper describes a novel method to transmit data higher than a bit per cycle of the carrier signal. The data transmission is carried during the OFF period of the carrier signal. Hybrid Variable Length Partial Pulse Modulation for Visible Light Communication

Multilevel inverters (MLI) are aligned with lower harmonics and less commutation losses, which offer high power capacity. MLI is one of the best widespread converters due to its ability to eliminate the harmonic distortion without dropping the converter power output. The cascaded MLI is utilized for a reduced number of switches. In this topology, the switching angles at fundamental frequency are attained by solving the selective harmonic eliminations using sine cosine algorithm. This attains the desired output voltage with the elimination of certain lower order harmonics. In this paper, the analysis of seven-level cascaded MLI is presented with the scheme of carrier-based modulation techniques i.e. Phase-Disposition (PD), Phase-Opposition Disposition (POD) and Alternative Phase-Opposition Disposition (APOD). The Artificial intelligence (AI) is carried out for PD technique. These techniques are capable of defining the required switching angles to eliminate the preferred values of harmonics. The harmonic contents of output voltage in carrier-based modulation are observed with the indices, such as the modulation index with frequency modulation index and amplitude modulation index. The simulation results are obtained for seven-level inverter using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The hardware implementation is carried out using Main Power Management IC TPS65217C Beagle Bone Black Board for seven-level open loop control to justify the achievement of the suggested topology. © 2020 IETE.

Analysis of Cascaded Multilevel Inverter with a Reduced Number of Switches for Reduction of Total Harmonic Distortion

A nonlinear backstepping controller is designed in this paper for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems with output LC filters to improve the dynamic stability over a large operating region and power quality. The detailed dynamical model of grid-connected PV systems with output LC filters are used to design the proposed backstepping scheme which ensures the desired tracking of all states. Since the proposed scheme uses all nonlinearities within the grid-PV system along with the dynamics of LC filters, the switching control inputs have the ability to ensure the overall dynamic stability and improve the power quality under any circumstance. The concept of control Lyapunov function (CLF) defining the energy of the system is used to analyze the convergence of all errors characterizing the tracking for different states. The performance of the proposed nonlinear backstepping controller (NBC) is evaluated on a gridconnected system with an output LC filter and the same scheme is compared by employing it on a similar system having an L filter. © 2020 IEEE.

Nonlinear Backstepping Controller Design for Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems with Output LC Filters to Improve Dynamic Stability and Power Quality

Multilevel inverter technology garnered its attention in the electrical power industry for producing various levels of the output voltage and it is considered as a potential alternative for the high power and medium voltage energy control applications. The cascaded MLI is being used for producing less stress on the switching devices, less distorted output voltage, and for generating a lesser common-mode voltage. The phase shifted PWM is considered as the best solution for H-bridge cascaded inverters. This paper analyzes a simple and flexible phase shifted PWM technique for common-mode voltage reduction of a seven-level H-bridge cascade inverter topology. This cascaded H-bridge MLI system distributes power consistently between the modules and ensures the same power exploitation of inverter switches within a module. The functional verification of the seven-level inverter is done using MATLAB/Simulink software and also presented the fuzzy control system for controlling the system. Implementation of Fuzzy-Based Multicarrier and Phase Shifted PWM Symmetrical Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter

This research highlights the vibration analysis on worm gears at various conditions of oil using the experimental set up. An experimental rig was developed to facilitate the collection of the vibration signals which consisted of a worm gear box coupled to an AC motor. The four faults were induced in the gear box and the vibration data were collected under full, half and quarter oil conditions. An accelerometer was used to collect the signals and for further analysis of the vibration signals, MATLAB software was used to process the data. Symlet wavelet transform was applied to the raw FFT to compare the features of the data. ANN was implemented to classify various faults and the accuracy is 93.3%. © 2020 Polish Academy of Sciences. Fault analysis of worm gear box using symlets wavelet

The emulated inertia controller (EIC) is designed to emulate the inertia to the power electronic inverter. The EIC helps to integrate the large-scale PV into the grid without affecting the stability. This paper demonstrates the design of EIC control. This paper the highlights the comparison of EIC with the traditional synchronous generator (SG). Comparison of Emulated Inertia controller with Synchronous Generator

This paper discusses about one of the possible solutions to overcome the influence of dust on the surface of solar PV panel. A decrease in power output with the increase in particle deposition has been identified in large scale solar PV power generation where there were many numbers of solar panels connected in the form of arrays and each array requires a robot to carry out efficient cleaning with in stipulated time. Autonomous automatic cleaning operation along with self-control and monitoring of accumulated dust with proper coordination through networking between robots is prerequisite option to attain efficient cleaning system in large scale solar power plants. To accomplish the same, selection of appropriate communication technology for real time wireless networking of solar cleaning robots with low power consumption and data delay to operate over wide area is required. Here an attempt had been made to bring in an automated robot cleaning system using low power wide area network (LPWAN) based on a network of ESP 8266 Node MCU's associated with a set of sensors under different configurations which showed successful results for implementation in industrial scale large solar PV power plants. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
