Injectable calcium phosphate cement is a promising biomaterial for hard tissue repair due to its osteoinductivity, biocompatibility properties, and its use to correct defect areas involving narrow cavities with limited accessibility by the minimally invasive technique. Microwave-synthesized hydroxyapatite (HA) was used for the preparation of cement. In recent years, both magnesium and strontium calcium phosphate cements have exhibited rapid setting, improved mechanical strength, and a good resorption rate. A big step still remains to develop injectable magnesium and strontium phosphate cements with ideal self-setting properties, adequate mechanical strength, and good biocompatibility for clinical applications. In this study, both magnesium and strontium were doped with synthesized semiamorphous and crystalline hydroxyapatite (HA). The powder mixture was mixed with Na2HPO4, NaH2PO4, and a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) solution to develop the novel magnesium and strontium calcium phosphate cement. The setting time, physiochemical properties of hardened cement, microstructure, mechanical strength, and injectability of the prepared cement were studied. The toxicity evaluation and cell adhesion, which are necessary to identify the suitability of the material for different applications, were quantified and investigated using fibroblast cells. The setting time of cement was reduced substantially for magnesium-or strontium-doped cement by 2 min. The phase composition of the hardened cement expresses the semiamorphous or crystalline phase of HA with additives. Smooth and complete injection of cement paste was observed in semiamorphous HA-based cement. The intercellular reactive oxygen stress (ROS) of the Sr2+-doped cement sample showed varied degrees of toxicity to cells in terms of different concentrations. The Mg2+-doped cement showed significant attachment of cells after treatment at varying incubation times. © 2021 The Authors. Published by American Chemical Society.

Characterization and in Vitro Evaluations of Injectable Calcium Phosphate Cement Doped with Magnesium and Strontium

The concept of circular economy (CE) has proven its worth due to the scarcity of natural resources and huge amounts of wastage which impacts the environment. Thus, the adoption of the CE concept in the supply chain becomes critical. However, due to the complex nature of processes/activities in the circular supply chain (CSC), managing risk has become a priority to avoid disruption. In current literature, no discussion has been conducted on how to analyse the risks in the context of CSC. Therefore, to fill this literature gap, this study concentrates on identifying and analysing the risks to promote effective circular initiatives in supply chains in the context of the manufacturing industry, thus minimising the negative environmental impact. A total of 31 risks were identified through an extensive literature review and discussions with experts. A grey-based decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method is applied by incorporating the experts' knowledge to compute prominence and cause/effect scores to develop an interrelationship map. Finally, a vulnerability matrix for risk categories is developed using the average of prominence and cause/effect scores of risks. The results show that transparent process is the most prominent risk and branding is the least significant risk. By using the average prominence and cause/effect score, a risk category, namely, financial risk, is identified as most vulnerable to CSC. These findings will help industry managers not only to prepare business strategies in the adoption of CE initiatives in supply chains by eliminating risks but also in minimising negative environmental impact. © 2020 ERP Environment and John Wiley & Sons Ltd

Analysing the risks of adopting circular economy initiatives in manufacturing supply chains

The Al2O3 - 3 wt. % TiO2 powders reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were used to prepare composite coatings by Air Plasma Spraying (APS) process. The coatings derived from APS process were varied in the percentage proportion of CNTs such as 2 wt. %, 4 wt. %, 6 wt. %, respectively. The coated surfaces were evaluated by means of scratch testing. The SEM micrographs of scratched samples showed the intensity of penetration during scratching gets reduced due to the presence of CNTs film over the surface. Also, the coated samples obtained from CNTs reinforcement showed a significance improvement in mechanical and microstructural properties such as microhardness, porosity as well as surface roughness. properties such as microhardness, porosity as well as surface roughness. © 2021
