Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between glass ceiling beliefs, work engagement, and burnout. Design/methodology/approach–A research model was developed based on the constructs from the Career Path Survey (CPS) and a literature review of research related to work engagement and burnout. Data from a cross-sectional study of 467 female employees from banks in India were collated and empirically tested, using structural equation modeling. Findings–Denial and resilience were positively related to work engagement and negatively to burnout. Resignation and acceptance had a positive relationship with burnout and a negative relationship with work engagement. Research limitations/implications–Further longitudinal studies focusing on different occupational sectors and career aspects can be considered for a more accurate and generalized insight into this concept. Practical implications–Glass ceiling survey can be considered as an input for human resource functions for effectiveness of the organization. Originality/value–This paper is the first to analyze the connection between the beliefs that women have about the glass ceiling and burnout and its components. © Emerald Publishing Limited.

Women’s glass ceiling beliefs predict work engagement and burnout

Purpose - The purpose of the paper is to review and analyse different glass ceiling studies conducted in different Asian countries during the three decades after the introduction of the metaphor. It also describes the antecedents and the consequences of the glass ceiling. Design/methodology/approach - The method chosen for the study was a computerised search of available materials using the keywords relating to glass ceiling in Asia and latest reports from international organisations. Findings - The perception of glass ceiling existence in Asian countries has been sorted out region-wise. Different factors for glass ceiling have been categorised under different theories. Research limitations/implications - The study includes a multiregional aspect of glass ceiling, which will be useful for further studies in this area. The limitation of the study is that it did not assess the awareness and influence of glass ceiling in each industry. Practical implications - Since the study showed glass ceiling practices in different countries in Asia, it might help policy makers for making proper decisions for breaking of glass ceiling. Social implications - The study may be a part of empowering women as it analyses areas of inequality and finds out antecedents. Glass Ceiling and women employees in Asian organizations: A tri-decadal review

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study the psychometric properties of different versions of Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) in the Indian context in terms of factorial validity, scale reliability, descriptive statistics and construct validity. Design/methodology/approach: The data collected through a cross-sectional survey among 467 women employees from banking sector in India and structural equation modeling has been performed for the analysis. Findings: Confirmatory factor analysis revealed a better fit for the three-factor model of UWES-9 than the other versions. Work engagement is positively related to in-role performance and negatively related to turnover intention. Research limitations/implications: The study recommends further longitudinal studies in this area. Practical implications: More studies and practical investigations can be conducted in organizations, academics and societies since the current study explored the appropriate version of UWES in the Indian context. A psychometric analysis of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale in Indian banking sector

Purpose: The Purpose of this paper is to provide an alternative approach to traditional campus hiring process. Using Social Media, we propose a model to reach out, to attract, and to recruit right candidates at the right time for the right role. Design: In stage 1, the employers create page/community with the right content to gather more number of potential employees. In stage 2, the employers attract them by communicating the profile details. In stage 3, the employers actively engage with the interested candidates by organizing events .In stage 4 the employers receive the applications from the interested candidates. Findings: Recruiting through Social media has many advantages as follows: Time, Cost and Minimum Workforce. Implications: Most of the companies got used to hire through campus recruitment process. This paper proposes to find out the differences in Debt Capacity of diversified and concentrated firms in the Indian context, from FY 2009-10 to FY 2015-16. Sales based Hirfindahl Index is used to differentiate firms as diversified and concentrated firms. The factors that determine the debt capacity such as Asset tangibility, Firm size, Market to book ratio and Profitability are used to find the differences in leverage of diversified and concentrated firms and applied Cross sectional regression analysis. The results confirm the earlier findings on debt capacity and diversified firms have 1 to 2 percent more to explain the variation in leverage than the concentrated firms. © Serials Publications Pvt. Perceived organisational support on career success: an employee perspective - an empirical study from an Indian context

Excessive usage of Facebook is a form of behavioral addiction. Unlimited and aimless usage of Facebook has some negative effects on the personal and social life of users. People who are engaged for many hours in Facebook have a tendency to keep away from their civilization and they withdraw from face to face interactions, and also from society. The present study examined the relation between Facebook addiction and resilience among college students. The convenient sample of 130 college students were selected for the study from Southern India. Measures used for the study were borrowed from Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale (Bergen, 2012) and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (Connor &amp; Davidson, 2003). The results show there is a significant negative correlation between Facebook addiction and resilience among college students.

Determinants of M-commerce: A study on online M-commerce adopters

Over the past few years, Indian private sector banks has placed stringent competition to public sector banks as the private sector banks pioneered in adopting newer technologies, broad product mix and, flexible offerings in products/services. To win the battle of competition, Indian banks today are focusing towards practicing customer relationship management effectiveness (CRME) to develop and maintain long-term customer relationships. This paper is an attempt to identify the most effective CRM bank with respect to varied CRM practices among the select banks. Sample of 42 retail bank customers were studied using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) for this purpose.
