Purpose: This paper aims to lay a theoretical foundation favoring the use of social networking sites (SNS) in workplace and its implication on employee stress and well-being. Prescriptive policies are also formulated to control unintended negative consequences. Design/methodology/approach: The authors have used an explorative design. Prescriptive data were drawn from extant literature, simple discussions with employees and employers. Discussions were centered on the consequences of SNS. Findings: In recent years, SNS usage has skyrocketed and use in the workplace has been controversial. Use of SNS enables employees to communicate and connect not only with coworkers but also with family members and friends, and it also helps to minimize the stress and improve the well-being of employees. However, a comprehensive policy that controls negative consequences should be in place. Originality/value: This paper sensitizes readers on the need for permitting SNS usage within a policy-controlled setting in organizations. Social networking sites in the workplace: an imperative

In the recent years, technology has been an important component in teaching and learning. The literature has highlighted many studies investigations on the students' intention to use technology in many Western, African and South East Asian countries. This article brings in the factors influencing students' adoption of ICT tools in higher education institutions in India. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model was used to determine the predictors of ICT adoption in learning their coursework in colleges. The results were obtained by structural equation modelling, using the data collected from 398 students doing their undergraduate engineering programs. The findings show that performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence has a positive significant relationship on behavioral intention to use ICT tools and facilitating conditions has a direct relationship with usage behaviour. The findings have led to relevant theoretical and practical implications and future researches are suggested.

SENTIMENT ANALYSIS BASED ON TWITTER DATA ON VIOLENCE

The study is aimed to identify various human resource practices in the public healthcare sector and to measure the level of human resource practices. The study adopts the perceptual view of healthcare professionals such as medical officers and staff nurses working in Primary Health Centres of Tamilnadu. A survey using a questionnaire is used to collect data from healthcare professionals. The results indicated that human resource practices such as job autonomy and job security are perceived to be useful and necessary, while training and performance management system are found to provide necessary inputs for carrying job duties and practices such as career growth opportunities and compensation need the attention of the officials of Health and Family Welfare department of Tamilnadu Government for enhancing the utility of these practices.

Human Resource Practices in Public Healthcare Sector: A Perceptual Study among Healthcare Professionals

This article explores the importance of emotional intelligence in the children’s life and the parentages role and support for child’s building intrapersonal, interpersonal, social relationships. The emotional intelligence and personality traits were associated and even parental support helps the children to develop their personality. Mayer, Salovey and Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT), were more likely to state positive relations with others, as well as perceived parental prop up and less likely to report negative interactions with close friends. The major constructs are the parent’s involvement in child’s behavior, education, ambition and sense of efficacy towards children’s growth and development. The reviews suggest that even structured programs and curriculum will not have complete development of child’s personality unless the parenthood or parental role constructs the development of the child’s personality, manage emotions, understand situations, set goals, pro-activeness and solve the problems creatively. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) has identified a set of social-emotional skills that underlie effective performance of a wide range of social roles and life tasks. CASEL has drawn from extensive research in a wide range of areas, including brain functioning and methods of learning and instruction to identify the skills that provide young people with broad guidance and direction for their actions in all aspects of their lives, in and out of school (Connell, Turner, Mason & Olsen, 1986). This paper examines the role of parentage in nurturing emotional intelligence in children by identifying the children personality traits involving the interpersonal skills and intrapersonal skills through an effective parental support that includes compassion, non – judgmental acceptance and responsive listening which are the qualities to be possessed within parentage. Henceforth this article depicts positive outcomes by achieving self – directed goals within children, able to handle and manage emotions in any type of situations by developing a Self – disciplined and a self – composed children in future by realizing that there are very less unrealistic expectations in their surroundings. Parents role in nurturing emotional intelligence in children life – An approach towards development of emotional quotient

Objectives: The aim of this paper is to closely examine and the study the dimension of Marketing orientation on Performance of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and to establish a relationship if any between these two vital constructs. Method and Statistical Analysis: The paper has adopted a cross sectional design and uses basic inferential statistical tools like t-test and ANOVA to confirm the set hypothesis. Survey method was followed to capture data from 132 SHGs belonging to two clusters in the Cuddalore Dist, Tamil Nadu. The paper provides empirical insights into the functioning of SHGs at present and the need for Market orientation, in the absence of which makes SHGs unsustainable. Findings: The evidences show clearly SHGs that have market orientation have revealed better performance. Therefore we are able to establish a positive relationship between market orientation and performance the SHGs. Rope making and doll making are two clusters we considered for data capturing. It was found that both the clusters respond differently to the dimensions of market orientation and business performance. It could possibly be due to the sophistication of their endeavours. Doll making activity compared to rope making require more skills and investment. Hence, there is a significant difference in the performance levels and their attitude towards market orientation of the two clusters. Application /Improvements: The research indicates the emphasis to be laid on market orientation to improve performance. Metamorphic changes in the organization’s growth are inevitable in today’s competitive environment. Most of the modern day business organizations scale up their human resource management with more of empowerment and engagement than employment and deployment. The key to competitive force is to have adequate, capable human capital keeping aside gender, religion, country, race, disability, etc. Traditionally roles within an organization are designed to identify talents within the conventional talent cluster. Organizations redefine their policies, practices, charters to have an inclusive and diversified workforce. IT and IT service organizations focuses more on having a non-discriminating, skilled workforce, which will help them to build a workforce which will help them to compete in a global work environment. The HR community openly acknowledges that it is a business imperative to hire disabled talent as various research studies showcase that it may enable organizations to manage rising attrition, create a loyal workforce and improve morale of the employees. The research has been administered with the objective to design a model to predict the variables contributing to the retention of the differently-abled workforce in Indian IT organizations. The study results helps to conclude that hiring practices, adequate learning opportunities, career growth facilities, unbiased reward mechanisms, the health and safety provisions, and decent accommodation are dependent variables which contributes to the “Job Retention” the dependent variables (Y). The results enunciates that differently-abled workforce does not want them to get differentiated with special care, infrastructure. They cannot be considered as non-conventional source of talents any more but a capable workforce which can help business to grow by their abilities and talents. An analytical study on job retention of differently-abled workforce employed in Indian IT organizations

Concepts and the theories related to social media are discussed in this chapter. This chapter talks about the various frameworks of social media for the use of organizations in developing social media framework with the business objectives. Definitions and guidelines in respect of social media metrics are mentioned in this chapter. Further it suggests the methods in choosing the right metrics for the key social media objectives in respect of canvassing or product launches. A new Social media metrics framework has been suggested and also the metrics have been identified for each framework group. This Chapter will help Organizations in identifying the key social media metrics for tracking and monitoring the measurement of the performance of one's brands, products, and services in the social media channels. Once the key social media metrics are identified, organizations can choose the right tool to measure the metrics defined. This would help Organizations to improve or enhance their marketing and operational business strategies by leveraging the power and reach of the social media channels.
