Infertility is "a disease of the reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse (and there is no other reason, such as breastfeeding or postpartum amenorrhea). In order for them to conceive the suggested treatment is Assisted Reproductive Therapy (ART). During such period, the infertile couple experiences a number of emotional traumas and stress along with the treatment procedures. It is suggested that there is a strong need for counselling (Wischmann T, 2001) and counselling should be made mandatory for Infertility treatment. (Boivin, et. al, 2001; Jeker, 1988). The current study aims at understanding stress due to infertility, and the patient's' attitude towards counselling. The study follows survey research design using purposive sampling method. The sample includes 35 infertile patients (16 men and 19 women) undergoing Assisted Reproductive Therapy. Stress, Social Concern, Sexual Concern, Relationship Concern, Rejection of Childfree Lifestyle and Need For Parenthood will be measured using Fertility Problem Inventory (FPI), and Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Help will be used to assess attitude towards counselling. The data was analysed using test for significance of difference and correlation to find the relationship between the variables. The results indicate that significant gender difference exists in Attitude Towards Seeking Professional Help. © Serials Publications.

A study on stress and attitude towards seeking professional help among infertile patients

Globalisation is one of the predominant key factors that have played a vital role in transforming society and which eventually led to changes in the overtones of culture. The radical changes have a remarkable influence on the way women identify themselves and approach their lives. It has resulted in the emergence of women struggling and unfolding to find new opportunities to redefine themselves. The new found ideologies in turn have impacted this patriarchal society to a great extent that it has brought with it individual and social changes and different perspectives about the roles of women and men in family and society, both in concealed lives and communal structures. This change is vividly captured and portrayed in the creative works and it is analysed and interpreted by various theories which are newly formulated or reformulated and one such is the re-emergence of the new age feminist theory. Feminist theory forms the basis for the study of the experiences of women in society, in particular, women's eminence and position within their society and family. Feminist thoughts assumes that women's welfare and perspectives are convincing in and of themselves and are not lesser or secondary to those of men's, nor should they be distinct only in relation to or as a difference from men's experiences. The absence of these assumptions in customary and sociological learning is one of the criticisms which have emerged in feminist erudition. This work explores upon new feminism as a conceptual framework for analysing the changes in women's life and attitude through two films namely English Vinglish and 36 Vayadhinile. © Serials Publications.

Struggle for inclusiveness and identity in the movies: English vinglish and 36 vayadhinile

Dyslexia is characterized by difficulties in accuracy of word recognition, poor spelling and encoding abilities. Difficulties in dyslexia result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction (Lyon et. al., 2003). Psycho-Educational Assessments should be administered for diagnosis and facilitate special children with the required remediation. This is a case study conducted on an 8.3 year old dyslexic girl. The psycho-educational assessment was done by using "Test of Non-Verbal Intelligence TONI-IV". Administration of Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT). The girl was found to have an average level of intelligence. Administration of Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) indicated that her reading, spelling, vocabulary and comprehension were not grade appropriate. These assessments of her Academics showed that there was an immediate necessity for special intervention program. Combination of Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment program, Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory phonetic approach and brain gym exercises. Intervention was given for 8 months with 3 sessions per week, after which a significant progress was seen in her reading and writing. It was very effective module of intervention since the number of errors in accuracy was significantly reduced and a considerable improvement was observed in her spelling. © Serials Publications.

Psycho-educational assessment of a dyslexic child-a case study

The objective of the paper is to portray New Historicism as a literary theory to explain political traditions and power structures in the scientific novel The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells, a leading American novelist who is today best known as "The Father of Science Fiction". The protagonist Montgomery stands as a positive symbol of exploration and realization, whereas, Dr. Moreau creates human-like beings from genetic manipulation of animals and treats them in a really harsh and cruel manner by imposing strict rules and regulations. The present paper explores H.G Wells' personal experiences in Victorian Age, and it also analyses how his meeting with Hitler and Joseph Stalin in Soviet Russia has a great influence on this work. According to Maharaj (2008, 23), "The Indian diaspora may be regarded as international phenomena-it has a presence in more than 100 countries globally." In recent times, the evolving role of migrants in the labor markets of the Gulf countries has attracted many people from developing countries like India. The people of the southern part of India, particularly Keralites and Tamils, have considered the Gulf a "promised land" for pursuing a good career and to attain economic stability. The "Gulf boom" is a period in the recent history of Kerala during which a large number of people have gone to the Gulf countries with great hopes and dreams. These people are ready to do all kinds of jobs and are willing to work hard. They put in a lot of efforts into their jobs and save most of their earnings. A visa to Gulf is like a treasure even at this point of time. Even the popular media cultivated this image of "gulf" as a "promised land." While the flashy nature of the Gulf countries has enchanted many people, for others, it has been like a mirage in a desert. Only after reaching there, they realize that those dreams still remain dreams and are not realized. The effect of learners' beliefs and classroom climate on language learning

Writing serves as an instrument in the process of healing. Scriptotherapy is the term coined by Suzzette A Henke in her book Shattered Subjects. It is a space where the writer explores his/her writing for the therapeutic purposes. The novel Push by Sapphire foregrounds the importance of writing where the character Precious undergoes various problems at her young age. Before the age of 16, she gets pregnant twice. Psychic trauma folds her and leads her life in total depression. Most of her problems happen inside the family, she becomes very lonely, depressed, rude and a stone-hearted girl. Once her teacher encourages her to write, she adapts self-narration and develops herself through the writing. Precious searches the opportunities to uplift her, and writing helps out. By writing, she finds a way to change her attitude and finds a different place in the classroom in which once she was considered rude. Writing serves as a way to heal. Scriptotherapy in her life helps her to get out the traumatic problems. This paper intends to find the importance of Scriptotherapy used in the novel Push by Sapphire and explores the benefits of writing. © Serials Publications.

Scriptotherapy as an antidote for traumatic problems with reference to sapphire's push

Objectives: The purpose of the paper is to enhance the LSRW skills and to develop moral behavior of the Engineering students with the help of mythology. Method: Using convenience sampling method, 25 under graduate Engineering students are selected as variables. By adapting Activity Based Language Learning (ABLL) method, activities are given to the students to improve their language skills and inculcate interest in mythology as well. Questionnaires are given and feedbacks are collected to identify the students' level of understanding mythology. Findings: Most of the Engineering students have enough technical expertise but lack communication skills which is necessary for showcasing their talent. Along with that the learners find it difficult to cope with the society due to the lack of moral knowledge. Through the activities that impart myth, the students develop their LSRW skills and along with that their moral behaviour is ameliorated too. Improvements: Students find ABLL as an interesting method where the acquisition of the language skills happens naturally, communication is no longer a barrier in their career and the ability to know about myth change the personal behaviour of the students. © Serials Publications.
