Communicative strategies like code-switching and code-mixing have interested researchers the world over. These strategies have traversed from real life situations to creative writings to social networking domains and are dominant in bilingual or multi-lingual societies for multifarious reasons. While majority of the research was conducted in the spoken form from the real-life contexts, a few were directed towards the written forms in literary genres and computer-mediated communication. However, a significant gap becomes noticeable and needs to be explored in Indian English fiction where creative writers have dexterously used these communicative strategies. Keeping the above in mind, the present paper attempts to analyze the role of these strategies in indigenous interpersonal communicative contexts in Indian English fiction. The text chosen for this purpose is Arundhati Roy's TheGod o Small Things and the analysis is based on the grammatical and pragmatic explanation of indigenous words which mostly belong to the area of interpersonal communication. The study shows how the author has skillfully used these strategies to unravel the indigenous cultural and social customs and mindset of the people within a particular indigenous community as well as the role-relationship between the interlocutors in a particular communicative context. © AesthetixMS 2020. Role of code-switching and code-mixing in indigenous communicative contexts: A study of the god of small things

According to the survey 17.5 million deaths are happened due to the cardiovascular disease that leads to create heart attack, chest pain and stroke. Based on the survey it clearly concludes that most of the people affected by heart problem that need to be identified in the earlier stage for eliminating the future risk in patient health. The importance of the heart disease detection process helps to create the earlier detection system for identifying heart problem by using machine learning and optimized techniques but the developed forecasting systems are difficult to predict the heart problems in an accurate manner with minimum time. So, hybridized Ruzzo–Tompa memetic based deep trained Neocognitron neural network is introduced to analyze the heart disease related features and predict the heart disease in earlier stage. First, heart disease data has been collected from UCI repository, dimensionality of the data is minimized by hybridized Ruzzo–Tompa memetic approach. After reducing the number of features, that are trained by deep learning approach which analyze the features using maximum number of hidden layers that used to predict heart disease features successfully while making the Neocognitron neural network classification. In the recent years, Self-help Groups extended the existing values of women empowerment all over the world. In India, the SHGs conceptualized framework has been started long back. As of now, people are started to get the benefits from this funding support from Government to deprive poverty. Specifically, this act helps the rural women to empower financially. This Survey method is an attempt to identify the level of empowerment in the rural zones. It deals with socio-economic factors, political and psychological features. This systematic process leads micro-finance users to monitor. The researcher has used a multi-stage random sampling technique to cover the people. A sample size of this survey, 235 respondents were selected in one block of the Vellore district. The data were collected by using a self-report (questionnaire). This data collection process has been carried out by following descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with the support of the software like SPSS 21 and AMOS 21 software. The findings of the study clearly states that the model is appropriate and it influences a positive effect on rural (SHG) women empowerment. © 2020, Institute of Advanced Scientific Research, Inc.. An investigation of the measurements of women empowerment among the rural SHGS microfinance beneficiaries

Northeast India, the land of original inhabitants, follows a unique and fascinating culture and tradition as its inhabitants are closely attached to nature. Northeast India is one of those few places in the world, where matrilineal culture is still practiced. In Meghalaya, one of the northeastern states, the practice of matrilineality has been in existence for almost 2000 years among a few tribes. Khasi, Jaintia and Garo, the earliest ethnic communities of Meghalaya appear to be homogenous ones, as the youngest daughter becomes the custodian of the ancestral prospects. This practice where the womenfolk become the custodians of the cultural and natural artifacts has strong parallels in the theory of ecofeminism. By employing ecofeministic perspective to read the matrilineal culture of the tribes, the paper aims to make a parallel study on the ethnic women’s affinity towards nature. Ecofeminism celebrates the robust connect between women and nature and asserts that women serve as the advocates for nature rather than men. The paper, therefore, aims to investigate ecofeministic elements among the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo tribes of Meghalaya and tries to express an ecofeministic view concerning family, marriage, religion, and food culture of the Meghalaya tribes. © 2020 Universidad de Alicante. Women, nature and culture: An ecofeminist reading of the matrilineal culture of the Khasis, Jaintia and Garo Tribes of Meghalaya [Mulheres, Natureza e Cultura: Uma Leitura Ecofeminista da Cultura Matrilineal das Tribos Khasis, Jaintia e Garo de Meghalaya] [Mujeres, naturaleza y cultura: una lectura ecofeminista de la cultura matrilineal de las tribus khasis, jaintia y garo de Meghalaya]

In the current era of Post-Truth, the concept of truth is not easily found out. Nowadays the false or fabricated appearance and ideas when presented make them appear more logical, reasonable and far widely accepted with emotional and personal belief, and appeal than the original and pure truth. Taking this concept into account, the current research paper aims to investigate how “Lord Shiva” who is worshipped by the Hindus the world over as the ‘Lord of Lords’, has been portrayed as a ‘human being’ possessing extraordinary prowess by Amish Tripathi in his first and debut novel of the Shiva Trilogy - ‘The Immortals of Meluha’. The paper examines the post-truth hidden in the evolution of myths and fables surrounding Lord Shiva and the other Indian deities and portrays the evolution of Lord Shiva as the ‘Supreme God’ from a ‘human being’ who lived centuries ago. Deconstruction of Lord Shiva in the era of post-truth: A study of Amish Tripathi’s the Immortals of Meluhaeluha

The new trend of pro-woman, counterstereotype advertisements termed ‘femvertising’ is gaining popularity and social acceptance. Social cognitive theory postulates that children learn from social experiences including those from media by identifying with other individuals, observing such models, processing their behaviour and later imitating such behaviour most often in a way considered gender-appropriate by society. We conducted an experiment in India, a collectivist society with a strong patriarchal culture, to test the effects of advertisements on the self-esteem of adolescent boys and girls and to examine the impact of media strategies applied in the classroom and aimed at stereotype reduction. In the study, adolescent boys and girls were randomly treated with stereotypical, neutral or femvertising ads. A three-way mixed ANOVA identified a significant effect of treatment and time in the femvertising group. The study demonstrates the efficacy of femvertising ads depicting women empowerment and counterstereotype imagery as classroom aids, as part of media strategies to minimize the effects of gender bias at homes and communities, and to enhance gender sensitization. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd

Femvertising as a media strategy to increase self-esteem of adolescents: An experiment in India

This paper endeavours to analyse how the protagonist in the novel Memories of Rain takes her final decision and emancipates herself in the patriarchal dominated society, and it also highlights the struggles faced by the character and her inner feelings. Sunetra Gupta's Memories of Rain (1992) portrays the story which takes place in a single weekend, relatively it narrates the flashback of a marriage between an Indian girl and an English moor. The novel is tremendously complimented for its lengthy prose style. © 2020 by Advance Scientific Research.

Emancipation of a woman in Sunetra Gupta's memories of rain

The unique characteristics of the listening skill and the vital role they play in language learning and communication do not receive the attention they deserve and the situation is worsened in EFL contexts due to lack of communication in everyday context. Given this, the present study was an attempt to empirically investigate if partial dictation versus dictogloss had any significant effect on listening comprehension of Iranian EFL learners. To this end, 60 male EFL learners were selected via double sampling and, after taking homogeneity test and listening pre-test, they were randomly assigned to two experimental groups (partial dictation versus dictogloss) and a control group. The first experimental group was exposed to dictogloss, while the second experimental group was exposed to partial diction. The control group underwent the mainstream usual classroom activities. After the treatment which took one hour each session for seven sessions, a listening post-test was given to all groups. The thorough analysis of data using paired sample t-test indicated that partial dictation group slightly outperformed the dictogloss group in the listening post-test and both experimental groups significantly outperformed the control group in the listening test. The result can have implications for learners, teachers and material developers in all second and, especially, foreign language contexts where listening comprehension does not receive the attention it deserves and this, in turns, deprives EFL learners of viable sources of input. It is recommended that dictation in either partial format or dictogloss become an instructional activity in English classes because of its usefulness in improving listening comprehension and, more importantly, because of its practicality which is an important concern in many language learning contexts. Partial Dictation vs. Dictogloss Effect on Listening Comprehension of Iranian EFL Learners

In this world of gizmos, Master of Computer Application students are in dire need of enhancing their career opportunities and job prospects, possessing good communication and employability skills to achieve success in campus drives. To meet this demand, Technical Communication course in a three year MCA programme is viewed in a positive perspective in terms of reaching their goals and reducing the unemployment rate among Computer Application graduates. Against this backdrop, the present study specifically aimed at critically examining the Course Contents of the Technical Communication course for MCA programme in select institutions of Andhra Pradesh. Structured questionnaire has been administered to major stakeholders (i.e. students and faculty) to collect the data which is further analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Making use of the descriptive analysis and frequency distribution method, the results and recommendations are provided to the respective university officials to customize the course contents of Technical Communication course as per the students’ and industry needs. © 2020 SERSC.
