Abstract

Hydroxyapatite is a well-known calcium phosphate that finds application in various fields, particularly in the field of medicine due to its excellent biocompatibility. In this present work, pure HAp was synthesized by chemical precipitation technique and compared with HAp in presence of Joncryl61, 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane and gelatin. FE-SEM and HR-TEM images confined with the variation in morphology like a rod, agglomerated rod, and rod with small sphere dumb-bell structure and the particle size was found in the range of 20nm to 80nm. In vitro antibacterial study was determined by well diffusion method and the tested materials effectively killed pathogens at all the concentrations. The highest concentration of 100μg/well showed good activity range between 20-35mm of the ZOI. MTT test was done for assessing their biocompatibility. The results indicated that all the compounds showed EC50 greater than 300 μg/ml which shows that the compounds are less toxic to the tested cell line. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
