School of Advanced Sciences (SAS), which was established in the year 1984, comprises Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry departments. The vision of the School is to provide quality teaching and high level research to make an impact at global level. The School consists of experienced, enthusiastic energetic faculty (total 226) in Mathematics (108), Physics (46) and Chemistry (72), who are experts in their research fields, evident from their publications and research funding, many are pioneers in their fields after long years of research experience both in India and abroad in repute organizations. The Departments are recognized by DST-FIST to establish sophisticated instrumental facilities.
The School offers Masters Programs in Data Science, Computational Statistics and Data Analytics, Physics and Chemistry -Analytical or Inorganic or Organic or General Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Chemistry as specialization. It includes a full time six months research based capstone project in 4th semester. The curriculum keeps abreast of the latest advancements in the respective domains and endeavours to develop scientists of high quality as the syllabi are framed / revised by Board of Studies with members drawn from repute institutions like IISc, IITs and industries. In addition to classroom and laboratory teaching, the students are engaged in experimental learning through research participation. The Curriculum for Applied Learning (CAL) adopted presently facilitates students learning by doing. The Semester Abroad Program (SAP) offers students an international exposure so as to prepare effectively for professional employment or research degree in basic and applied sciences.
The School offers Ph.D. programs in frontier research areas in all 3 disciplines. The candidates selected through a National level test and interview undertakes course work and the School has on roll 467 Ph.D. Scholars (both full time and part time). Faculty members have been awarded National and International projects to the tune of 33.26 crores (4.58 million US Dollars. They publish their findings in internationally recognized SCOPUS indexed journals and also have been granted patents. The School publishes over 500 SCOPUS indexed publications in a year. The School is equipped with necessary instruments for research and also offers services to other institutions as well. The departments have several teaching and research labs. The School periodically conducts extension programmes such as conference, workshops, seminars and symposia on topics of relevance.
Subject of Chemistry is ranked at 550 in QS World Ranking and 15th place at National level.
After graduation, students are placed in reputed companies in India and abroad have been securing admissions in India and abroad for their higher education.
