Single crystals of Nickel Boro Phthalate (NBP) are grown by the slow evaporation technique. The crystals are subjected to Single crystal x-ray diffraction to analyse the crystal lattice parameters, and the crystal structure is found to be triclinic. The presence of functional groups has been estimated qualitatively from the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and elemental analysis is done using the Energy dispersive x-ray spectral study. The UV-visible spectral studies indicate a broad window of transparency in the entire visible and infrared region and the fundamental frequency is determined to be 285 nm. Optical properties such as the dielectric constant, polarizability, susceptibility, optical and electrical conductivity are presented graphically. Third-order nonlinear parameters are evaluated by the Z scan technique using continuous wave 532 nm diode- pumped Nd:YAG laser. Closed aperture mode indicates the self-defocusing nature and negative nonlinearity of the crystal. Open aperture mode reveals the saturation absorption within the crystal. The nonlinear optical parameters such as nonlinear refractive index n2, nonlinear absorption coefficient β and nonlinear susceptibility χ (3) are also determined. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Studies on third order nonlinear optical properties of Nickel Boro Phthalate NLO crystal

An apt and a futuristic nonlinear optical material sodium tetraborate pentahydrate (STBPH) was synthesized and grown by the technique of slow evaporation. The structural parameters of the crystal was confirmed by single crystal XRD revealed rhombohedral crystal system. Crystal's broad optical transparency was revealed by UV–Vis absorption spectrum. From the absorption spectrum, theoretical calculations were made to determine absorption coefficient, band gap, Urbach energy and reflectance. The functional groups were identified by FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra. Vicker's microhardness measurement disclosed that the grown crystal belongs to soft material category. Photoluminescence (PL) spectral study of STBPH indicated violet and blue emission peaks respectively at 343.06 nm and at 453.11 nm, 490.19 nm. Dielectric studies reveal the dielectric nature of the grown crystal. TGA-DTA studies showed that the crystal holds good thermal stability. The third order nonlinearities of STBPH was investigated by Z-scan technique manifest its suitability in nonlinear optical applications. © 2018 The Physical Society of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

Synthesis, growth and third order nonlinear optical studies of a rhombohedral crystal: Sodium tetraborate pentahydrate

z-scan technique was used to investigate the non-linear optical properties of Potassium dihydrogen phosphate doping sodium chloride (PDPSC) were grown slow evaporation solution growth technique at room temperature. The lattice parameters were calculated from single x-ray diffraction. Laser damage threshold value was found to be 13.48 GW/cm2. The Vickers microhardness test was carried out on the grown crystals and there by Vickers hardness number (Hv), work hardening coefficient (n), yield strength (σy), stiffness constant C11 were calculated. The z-scan technique has been employed to determine the third order nonlinear optical (TONLO) nature of PDPSC crystal at 532 nm. The third order nonlinear optical linear absorption coefficient (α), Nonlinear refractive index (n2), Nonlinear absorption coefficient (β), Real part of the third-order susceptibility [Re (χ|3|)], Imaginary part of the third-order susceptibility [Im (χ|3|)] and Third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility (χ3) has been calculated using the Z-scan data. © 2018

Nonlinear optical and microscopic analysis of Cu2+ doped zinc thiourea chloride (ZTC) monocrystal

In present investigation, single crystals of organic charge transfer complex, 2-amino-4-methyl pyridinium-4-methoxy benzoate (2A4MP4MB) was grown by controlled slow evaporation solution growth technique using methanol as a solvent at room temperature. Single crystal XRD analysis confirmed the crystal system and lattice parameters of 2A4MP4MB. The crystalline nature, presence of various vibrational modes and other chemical bonds in the compound have been recognized and confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and FT-Raman spectroscopic techniques respectively. The presence of various proton and carbon positions in title compound was confirmed using 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral studies. The wide optical operating window and cut-off wavelength were identified and band gap value of the title compound was calculated using UV-vis-NIR study. The specific heat capacity (cp) values of the title compound, 1.712 J g−1·K−1 at 300 K and 13.6 J g−1 K−1 at 433 K (melting point) were measured using Modulated Differential Scanning Calorimetric studies (MDSC). From Z-scan study, nonlinear refractive index (n2), nonlinear absorption (β) and third order nonlinear susceptibility (χ(3)) values were determined. The self-defocusing effect and saturable absorption behavior of the material were utilized to exhibit the optical limiting action at λ = 532 nm by employing the same continuous wave (cw) Nd: YAG laser source. The laser damage threshold (LDT) study of title compound was carried out using Nd: YAG laser of 532 nm wavelength. The Vickers’ micro hardness test was carried out at room temperature and obtained results were investigated using classical Meyer's law. In addition, DFT calculations were carried out for the first time for this compound. These characterization studies performed on the title compound planned to probe the valuable and safe region of optical, thermal and mechanical properties to improve efficacy of 2A4MP4MB single crystals in optoelectronic device applications. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd
