We model an 8-fold photonic quasi-crystal fiber (PQF) for enhancing the second harmonic generation efficiency from 800 nm wavelength. We find, structural arrangement of fiber mainly contributes in reducing of overlap area between fundamental and second harmonic. Also, the wave-vector mismatch between fundamental and second harmonic is reduced which, in turn, can help in easy fabrication of long quasi-phase matching period. We compute relative efficiency of SHG with 8-fold PQF and obtain an enhancement of 28.97% relative efficiency of second harmonic in 8-fold photonic quasi-crystal fiber (159.53%W-1cm-2) compared to 6-fold photonic quasi-crystal fiber (123.69% W-1cm-2) in our optimized design. © Research India Publications.
