In the title compound, C19H16ClNO2, the quinoline ring system is planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.008 Å). The phenyl group and the -CO2 fragment of the ester unit form dihedral angles of 60.0 (1) and 60.5 (1)°, respectively, with the quinoline ring system.

A simple, efficient and rapid method for clay-catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation of heterocyclic aldehydes with active methylene compound under reflux condition is reported. This protocol offers high yield, shorter time and simple work procedure. Montmorillonite-KSF-catalyzed synthesis of 4-heteroarylidene-N-arylhomophthalimides by Knoevenagel condensation

Microwave-assisted montmorillonite K-10-catalyzed Friedlander synthesis of quinolinylquinolinones has been developed. The efficient and eco-friendly catalyst along with the convenience of the product isolation make this process an attractive alternative for the synthesis of target heterocycles. The synthesized products were confirmed by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectroscopic techniques. All the synthesized compounds showed good antibacterial property similar to standard Ampicillin and enhanced antioxidant activity. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.
