Influence of sodium formate in γ-glycine single crystals – Synthesis, growth and characterization

Abstract
Single crystals of λ-glycine in the presence of sodium formate were grown first time by slow evaporationmethod at room temperature. Crystalline nature of the material was confirmed by single crystal X-raydiffraction analysis. Solubility of the material was determined by gravimetric method. UV-Vis-NIR anal-ysis were carried out to find the optical absorbance of the material. The presence of functional groupwas confirmed by Fourier Transform-Infrared analysis (FT-IR). Thermal stability and decomposition ofthe grown crystal were studied by Thermo gravimetric/Differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA). Energydispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) revealed the presence of elements in the grown crystal. The nonlinearoptical response of the grown crystal was confirmed by Q-switched Nd-YAG laser and second harmonicgeneration efficiency of the grown crystal was found to be greater than that of KDP. © 2014 Elsevier GmbH.
