Polycrystalline Bi0.8Sm0.2FeO3 was synthesized by a simple co - precipitation route. Single phase of the prepared sample was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis which further reveals that it crystalizes as mixed crystal structure of rhombohedral with R3c space group and orthorhombic with Pnma space group. A considerable increase in magnetization was observed at room temperature VSM analysis and temperature dependent dielectric analysis shows an anomaly at the vicinity of Neel temperature (TN). Room temperature ferroelectric study explicitly authenticates the formation of a better loop due to the reduced leakage current and the suppression of oxygen deficiencies. © 2016 Author(s).
