2-Chloro-N-[4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene]aniline crystal, an organic optical material, has been synthesized and good optically quality materials were grown by slow evaporation technique. The crystal was subjected to Vickers microhardnessmeasurement to study the mechanical behaviour of the material and Meyer's index number. Surface laser damage threshold energy of the grown crystal has also been studied.
