Prof. M Arivarasu is currently serving as a faculty member in Centre for Innovative Manufacturing and Research, VIT University. He holds Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from University of Madras and Master of Engineering in CAD/ CAM from University of Madras. He was also awarded Doctor of Philosophy from VIT University in the field of Mechanical Engineering in 2015.
He has a rich industrial experience of eight years serving as a production engineer QC welding inspector, in various places Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, and Saudi Arabia. He has expertise in the field of materials, metal joining, surface coating, fabrication of pressure vessels and piping, cross country pipelines and refinery erection. During his industrial work experience he has handled various boiler grade materials like carbon steel, carbon manganese steel, alloy steels and stainless steel. He has hands on experience in various metal joining techniques like TIG, MIG, SMAW, resistance welding and various NDT techniques. He was certified as a welding inspector (AWS-CWI) from American welding society, Florida, USA.
He is into academic research and teaching for the past 6 years. As an academician, Prof. M Arivarasu has 32 international publications in peer reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and Thomson Reuters. To add on to his credential, Prof. M. Arivarasu published a book chapter entitled “Hot corrosion of weldments”. His area of research is metal joining, residual stress measurements, laser shock peening, high temperature corrosion, and thermal spray coatings. His recent research on the area of residual stress distribution and vibratory stress relieving was published in a reputed peer reviewed journal “Material Science and Engineering – A”. He was awarded with certificate of appreciation and cash price for the years 2013,2014 and 2016 from VIT University towards international journal publication. He has been resource person, organizer and executive committee member of many International conferences. He has also been the chief faculty organizer and resource person for many workshops. He is currently guiding 5 full time Ph.D research scholars and one part time research scholar.
