This Paper presents a new hybrid PSO technique for optimal location of FACTS devices considering optimal power flow (OPF).The problem is decompressed into the optimal setting of FACTS parameters sub problem that is searched by the hybrid PSO approach and the OPF with fixed FACTS parameters sub problem that is solved by the Modified Interior Point programming method. Two types of FACTS devices are used TCSC (Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor) and SVC (State Var Compensator). The optimizations are performed on the parameters namely the location of FACTS devices, their settings and their types. Simulations are performed on IEEE 30 bus systems indicates that the proposed hybrid PSO, able to identify the optimal number & location of FACTS devices in an assigned power system network for minimizing the total generation cost and transmission losses, maximizing systems capabilities, and maximization of the social benefit from the effectiveness of the proposed method. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2011.

Hybrid particle swarm optimization technique for optimal location of FACTS devices using optimal power flow

Induction motors constitute a theoretically challenging control problem due to nonlinearity of the dynamical system, motor parameter variation and the difficulty in measuring rotor variables. Incorporation of thyristorised a.c. voltage controller for speed control of the induction motor aggravates the non-linearity of the system. The use of conventional PI controller will not guarantee optimum dynamic response at different operating points of the drive. This paper presents the design and simulation of a VLSI based fuzzy logic controller for speed regulation of voltage controlled induction motor drive. VLSI Design is suitable for Real-time applications,Analagous to DSP Processors,Parallel processing of fuzzy rules is possible to achieve fast and reliable single chip digital controller.The digital controller was entirely designed using the Very High Speed Integrated Circuits Hardware Description Language(VHDL).The fuzzy algorithms in the proposed controller are systematically obtained from the intuition and experience about the motor drive dynamics. A linearized incremental model of a.c. voltage controller fed induction motor drive is derived from the fifth order d-q axis model and is used for simulation study. The nullifying effect of parameter variation and disturbance rejection property of fuzzy logic controller is evidenced through simulation results. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2011..

A Fuzzy Logic Approach for Speed Controller Design of A.C. Voltage Controller Fed Induction Motor Drive

This paper reports on the development and implementation of new algorithm for Optimum Power Flow problem with reduced number of control variables. This new proposed method is built with the advantage of two control variables, generator-bus voltage magnitude and voltage angle, instead of active power output and voltage magnitude. The power system network is modified for the proposed method by structuring the voltage bus as layers forming a block of tridiagonal sparse structure of Y-bus matrix. The reduced impedance matrix structure has the advantage of easy implementation with less burden on system memory. The objective of fuel cost minimization is framed as an optimization task and the solution is sought through Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique. Conventional Fast Decoupled Load Flow (FDLF) method and incorporation of proposed method using PSO has been examined and tested for standard IEEE 14 bus system. The solidarity of proposed PSObased approach is demonstrated and compared with conventional OPF method. The results are promising and show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach. © 2009 WASET.ORG.
