This paper presents a new technology based solar PV charge controller which contains series, shunt charge controller. The lead acid battery is been chosen for charging and discharging of series, shunt charge controller due to its features. Authors used MOSFET's for the switching purpose and it will reduce the switching losses. The proposed charge controller has been developed using MATLAB and the charging and discharging process of developed charge controller has been verified. Further, the developed charge controller has been maintained within the SOC limits by considering the efficiency of the battery maintained good, hence forth the life time of battery can be increased up to a larger extent. In addition, the analysis on various charge controller has been discussed and based on this it can be proved that; the performance of the proposed charge controller is improved and it requires less number of switches so the cost of the system also reduces. It is most suitable for optimize the energy crises in the rural areas to an affordable level. © 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Comparative study on charge controller techniques for solar PV system

Partial shading of PV arrays is one of the most discussed and worked upon problem in the field of solar photovoltaic as it reduces the output power and exhibits multiple peaks in the PV and IV characteristics. As, a result the modules have to be reconfigured to get a maximum power output. This paper presents an optimization based approach for Total cross tied (TCT) connected modules in a PV array. The physical locations of the modules remain unchanged while the electrical connections are altered. The proposed technique utilizes, standard deviation genetic algorithm (SDGA) as an optimization tool, which gives the final connection matrix for the new electrical interconnection which extracts the maximum power from the PV array. This is done to obtain uniform shade dispersion throughout the panel. The proposed method has been tested and simulated in Matlab-Simulink environment under partial shading conditions. Results of the simulation show that the proposed reconfiguration technique exhibit superior results as compared to the traditional TCT interconnection scheme. © 2017 The Authors. Solar PV array reconfiguration using the concept of Standard deviation and Genetic Algorithm

Increased penetration of wind and solar PV system in Distributed Generation (DG) and isolated micro grid environment necessitates the use of maximum power point tracking method for wind and solar PV resources. Considering the change in environmental conditions and non-linearity, a variety of publications reporting various MPPT algorithms for solar and wind energy systems are put forward in recent times. But the review reports on common MPPT techniques used for solar and wind applications for hybrid power generation have not yet been reported. Hence, in this paper, conventional techniques and artificial intelligent techniques found extensively used in the power generation platform are peerly reviewed and compared. Historical MPPT methods like Perturb &amp; Observe (P&amp;O) / Hill Climbing, Incremental Conductance (INC), Fuzzy and Neural Network methods benchmarked in MPPT province are comprehensively compared in a common platform. In addition to the common existing techniques, recent swarm intelligence and bio-inspired techniques in solar PV and sensor less adaptive techniques in wind MPPT are also been reviewed provided for quality assessment. Finally an economic analysis is arrived for MPPT methods based on (i) Capacity utilization factor (ii) Cost (iii) Energy Savings (iv) payback period (v) Income generated and (vi) stability. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

Design and overview of maximum power point tracking techniques in wind and solar photovoltaic systems: A review

In this article, field orient control (FOC) of a space vector modulated asymmetrical Multilevel inverter (MLI) fed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is presented. The MLI considered is a reduced switch inverter which produces seven level output with six power switches and two input sources. A general low computational space vector algorithm is used to modulate the MLI. The PMSM is controlled by Field oriented control with speed regulated PI. The implementation of the FOC applied to a PMSM and validated with simulation results. Simulation of the whole system is carried out in MATLAB/simulink tool. © 2017 The Authors. Field Oriented Control of Space Vector Modulated Multilevel Inverter fed PMSM Drive

This paper presents the investigation and analysis of induction cooker, using half bridge series resonant inverter connected in series with Thyristor controlled reactor(TCR). The supply to this inverter is given through the solar PV panel. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is applied for tracking the maximum solar energy. It is applied to the domestic induction heating operation which supplies medium frequency currents (20-100 kHz) to the inductor, which heats up the plate. The simulation of this topology is carried out in the MATLAB/SIMULINK platform. © 2017 IEEE.

Design of auto-performance optimization tool for diesel engine

The renewable energy as input needs a boost voltage to balance the utility grid and so the conversion of boost up voltage process is required. The DC-DC converters play a major role in high voltage gain and efficiency in the renewable energy conversion system. It's very important to maintain the system efficiency. The voltage stress is reduced by the reduction in the semiconductor devices. Hence single switch DC-DC converter plays a major role in maintaining efficiency and voltage stress which increases the voltage transmission ratio. © 2017 IEEE.

A review on single switch Dc-Dc converter for renewable energy based applications

Investigation of power quality issues and its solution for distributed power system

The needs of the dissimilar weld joint between superalloy and stainless steel is increasing in many industries. Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and shield metal arc welding (SMAW) are the most common methods used to fabricate the weld joints in the fabrication industry due to its high versatility in the fabrication of industrial components and parts. The present study investigated the metallurgical and mechanical properties of bimetallic joints fabricated between nickel-based superalloy Incoloy 800 and stainless steel AISI 316L. The weld joints were fabricated by using ERNiCrMo-3 filler wire. The micrograph of weld fusion zone revealed the austenitic microstructure with columnar dendrite and cellular structure in both weldments. SEM/EDS analysis witnessed the precipitation of Nb-rich phase in the weld fusion zone fabricated by SMAW process, and it was minimized in case of GTA welding technique. The strength and toughness of the weld joint fabricated by GTAW improved 14 and 25% respectively when compared to SMAW technique. © 2017, The Indian Institute of Metals - IIM.
