The current research study proposes a multi-objective optimal power flow (OPF) solution using a modified Interior Search Algorithm in which the Levy Flight feature with two different strategies is incorporated to accelerate the convergence speed and to enhance solution quality. In traditional OPF problems, the thermal generation units alone are accounted for, whereas the security challenges faced by the network are mostly ignored. In other terms, the emission needs to be significantly reduced in terms of environmental sustainability aspects. So, the electrical grid must be infused with power generated from different renewable energy sources. Consequently, the current research article proposes an approach in order to accomplish OPF through a combination of stochastic wind and solar power coupled with traditional thermal power generators in the system. The authors leveraged the modified IEEE 30-bus system, IEEE 118-bus system, and real-time electrical network 62-bus Indian Utility System in order to validate the Levy Interior Search Algorithm proposed in the study by incorporating renewable energy sources. During implementation, the researchers considered different factors such as network security limitations, for instance, transmission line capacity, bus voltage limits, and restricted operation zones for thermal units. The simulation results obtained using the proposed LISA Strategy-II algorithm are compared with the results obtained using LISA Strategy-I, ISA, and other optimization algorithms reported in the literature. The results achieved from the implementation infer that the proposed method has inherently good convergence characteristics and affords better exploration of the Pareto front.

A novel non-isolated dual-input DC-DC boost converter for hybrid electric vehicle application

India has about 7500 km of coastal lines with a significant potential to harvest marine energy. Tidal energy, one of the types of marine energy that emerges has a practical option to supply reliable and renewable energy to the Indian coastal areas. This paper focuses on tidal current turbines that can be adapted to various potential sites available along Indian coasts. Tidal energy projects all over the world and the type of turbines used by their applications are presented. This is followed by preliminary analysis of the Indian sites that includes current speeds and depth, possible adoption of current tidal current technology to those sites and the likely power output. Finally, challenges facing those who adopt the current technology are briefly discussed. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Tidal current energy for Indian Coastal lines – A state art of review

Single-stage single-switch ac/dc converters with power factor correction will have higher power losses under a light-load condition, as compared to that of two-stage approach, due to sharing of a common power transistor such that the power factor correction (PFC) stage cannot be switched OFF separately to save power losses. This paper addresses the problem by using a buck topology for the PFC stage of single-stage single-switch converters as it can completely turned OFF. This converter topology is capable of working in both buck mode and buck-boost mode depending on the rectified voltage at input side and power at load side. A simple and effective topology incorporating PFC for low power applications is simulated in Matlab/Simulink environment. Hardware implementation of the converter was and performance was verified with various practical light loads. It also satisfies the harmonic compliance of source current in accordance to the IEEE519:1992 recommendations. Experimental verification of single-stage power factor correction converter with improved light-load efficiency

The paper proposes feasible and acceptable distributed slack power flow (DSPF) formulation for the settlement process of active power market in deregulated system with single-sided bidding. In general market clearing is done using single slack bus model but whenever marginal bus changes loss price varies drastically. In order to prevent the sudden changes in loss price, optimization using distributed slack model is suggested in this paper. The loss factor approach is used in determining the feasible participation factor. The proposed strategy is verified using PJM 5 bus system. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Feasible Settlement Process for Primary Market Using Distributed Slack Power Flow Strategy

This project is solely based on the IOT application of Smart house. This is the day and age of smart devices. Companies are looking to transform the way humans interact with the environment. So digital technologies such as IOT is gaining popularity across the globe. So, trying to implement an IOT model which can function with the help of LabView and Arduino. The main objective of this project is to implement 5 subsystems which are frequently used in a smart house namely: Internal lighting system, External lighting system, Burglar alarm, Temperature and Smoke detector. The other main objective is to monitor the sensor data on the front panel of LabVIEW. The project is successfully completed and the original goals are met. The sensor data is continuously monitored and this data can be viewed on the front panel of LabVIEW. Multi-objective optimal power flow using a new heuristic optimization algorithm with the incorporation of renewable energy sources

Nowadays, fossil fuel exhaustion is one of the significant environmental issues. Hence, the existing power system of Renewable Distributed Generations (RDG) is used to overcome this issue. The proper planning must be implemented to allocate the separate sources in the network of distribution areas. This paper proposed an optimal placement and sizing of Distributed Generation (DG) with an improved flower pollination algorithm (IFPA). This paper aims to find the optimal location and sizing of the Distributed Generations (DG). The objective of power loss minimization is considered with some constraints like power balance equations, voltage limits, DG sizing limits, and thermal limits are being done in this research. This proposed technique is evaluated on the practical Indian 52 bus system. The results of the optimal Distributed Generation location and sizing are obtained with the help of IFPA. Therefore, the percentage of loss reduction through IFPA is comparatively higher than the FPA and the chaotic FPA. © 2021 IEEE.

Improved flower pollination algorithm-based optimal placement and sizing of DG for practical indian 52 bus system

With increasing energy demand and the necessity to fulfill the energy requirement, it is mandatory to increase the energy generation. However, shortage of supply resources stands as a blockade in this present scenario. Hence, an efficient energy management system is required. This paper demonstrates a working prototype of intelligent energy management system. It is an IoT-based energy management system with Web server-type manual control. It involves serial communication between microcontrollers such as Arduino Uno and NodeMCUs, sensors and computational intelligence. The sensors used in this case are LDR, thermistor, and PIR motion sensor. The system includes LED lights and fans as load. The raw data from the sensors is read by the Arduino and it serially communicates the raw data to both the NodeMCUs. The data is then converted to standard formats and uploaded to the ThingSpeak cloud server for data logging and analysis by one of the NodeMCU. Using the second NodeMCU, a Web server is created and used for manual control of the loads. This Wi-Fi server sends data to the NodeMCU as per the user input from the browser and this NodeMCU controls the load accordingly. A current sensor is also connected along the supply line for power measurement. The current sensor is an ACS712 20 A sensor which is connected to the NodeMCU and is responsible for uploading data to the ThingSpeak cloud server. The working model has three rooms for demonstration purpose but can be increased accordingly as per need with certain changes in system hardware model. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

IoT-Based Energy Management System with Data Logging Capability

In this paper, modified ILC is proposed for maintaining stable voltage, frequency and for efficient power management in a hybrid micro grid (HMG). The system is modelled with solar, battery, DC loads at DC bus, wind turbine, utility grid and AC loads at AC bus. An interlinking converter (IC) is connected between the AC and DC bus to facilitate bidirectional power flow. The control of voltage at AC/DC bus and management of power are obtained in the modelled hybrid micro grid with set point weighting iterative learning controller (SPW-ILC) by controlling the interlinking converter both in autonomous and grid connected mode of operation. To minimise the error signal to the controller, the classical optimisation method of sequential quadratic programming (SQP) has been employed to improve the performance of the controller. The simulation results show that the proposed controller have better performance than other controllers under variable source and load conditions. Copyright © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
