Centre for Crystal Growth (CCG) was established in VIT with financial support from various national funding agencies like DST, DRDO, NRB, CSIR, UGC-DAE, BRNS and IGCAR to grow high-quality single crystals using various techniques like slow evaporation, Bridgman, SR and flux technique. The major research areas in the research centre are crystal growth, thin film fabrications, nanomaterials, ceramics, biomaterials, polymers and laser shock wave processing. CCG has also been active in providing various material characterization facilities like Z-scan, laser damage threshold, optical studies, micro hardness measurement, dielectric analysis - LCR meter and TDR, hydrophobic measurement, moisture analyser, surface etching studies, photoconductivity and refractive index measurements. The centre gains attention due to its immense publication in the diverse field of research in condensed matter physics namely crystal growth, thin film, laser shock peening, nanomaterials, biomaterials and polymers.
CCG has eight qualified faculties, published over 500 national and international research articles and produced 30 doctoral candidates. The centre has received 20 projects from national funding organizations and also published two patents in the field of laser shock peening.
