Abstract
Bumper systems in automobiles are very important to help and protect passengers during frontal and rear collisions. To meet the safety requirements, to reduce the component weight and to increase the fuel efficiency, testing and designing of bumper system is indispensable. Conventional testing and design procedures are expensive and time consuming. This paper attempts a numerical modeling and simulation of the impact and crashworthiness of the bumper material during low velocity impact testing. The design procedure uses a simplified dynamic model in terms of quasistatic approach. The performance of the bumper systems by experimental testing is compared with finite element analysis (FEA) by quasistatic methodology and also simulated using ANSYS12.0 /LS-DYNA to attain the best design. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.
