Abstract
Crash worthiness of the automotive parts plays a vital role in safety of the vehicles. Use of natural fiber in the automotive components can provide the advantages of weight, cost reduction and recyclability, in addition to ecoefficiency and renewability compared to synthetic conventional materials. This research is focused on development, dynamic mechanical analysis and pendulum impact test analysis of partially eco-friendly hybrid long fiber reinforced thermo plastics bumper with natural kenaf fiber by hot impregnation process to increase the desired mechanical properties of the automotive components. In this research bumper materials like Steel, Aluminium, Glass Mat Thermoplastics (GMT), Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) and hybrid Long Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics were selected for the frontal impact crash performance using Finite Element Analysis. The selected materials were compared to each other for the design parameters like shape, material and impact condition. Simulation is done by using Finite Element Analysis software, LS DYNA. The results shows newly developed hybrid long fiber reinforced thermo plastic bumper beam having higher performance in crashworthiness and shock absorption. © Research India Publications.
