Abstract
Polymer matrix composite materials play a vital role in product development, and it is a best alteration for metals. In the present scenario, natural fibers are considered more important than synthetic fibers as reinforcements in polymer matrix composites due to the environment pollution and other hazards. This paper deals with the kenaf fabric-reinforced hybrid polymer matrix composite material. A hybrid polymer is a mixture of synthetic and natural resins. Cardanol is used as natural resin and vinyl ester resin, isophthalic polyester resin, and general purpose resin are used as synthetic resins. The tensile and flexural strengths of the kenaf fabric-reinforced hybrid polymer matrix composite based on different parameters like percentage of cardanol in a hybrid polymer, type of synthetic resin in a hybrid polymer, and orientation of the kenaf fabric are found out. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is employed to find the level of different parameters that affects the tensile and flexural strengths. © 2018 by Begell House, Inc.
