Abstract

Fracture in metal forming usually occurs as ductile fracture. The existing ductile fracture criteria for sheet metal forming is used here for perforated sheet metals. Three approaches, namely Generalized plastic work criterion, Cockcroft &Latham and Norris et.al, are considered here to study forming limits of perforated sheet metals in the negative minor strain region. Perforated sheet metals performance depend on percentage of open area, number of holes, ligament ratio, hole size, hole shape, arrangement of hole pattern and thickness. The influence of open area on forming limits is considered here. Commercial pure aluminium is considered for the analysis. It has been found that Norris et.al criterion predicts higher strain than the other two criterions. © 2012 EuroJournals Publishing, Inc.
