Abstract
Fiction welding is a solid state welding process which is applicable to similar and dissimilar metals of ferrous and non ferrous domain. Favorable conditions of aluminium alloys like good corrosion resistance and light weight property makes suitability for various applications. Joints made by friction welding process of Aluminium alloys are used in manufacturing sector of various mechanical, transportation and electrical components. Use of the traditional fusion welding processes for aluminum and combination of other dissimilar materials creates the formation of undesirable phase at the welded region, which limits the structural and non structural applications. The theme of this paper is to review the literatures corresponding to the friction welding of pipes and tubes. The major percentage of contribution of this paper is to study the issue of welding of pipes, various process parameters, properties of joint and the joint efficiency etc. This literature survey gives some research gaps in the friction welding of tubular and non tubular structures. © Research India Publications.
