Abstract
Aluminum and their alloys are widely used in harsh chemical environments due to their superior corrosion resistance. This paper aims to investigate the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy 6061 under a mixture of acids with methanol. The acidic mixture consists of Nitric acid, Hydrochloric acid, and Hydrofluoric acid. Three different percentage level of methanol mixture was varied by 20, 25 and 30% in the leading acidic mixture during the study. After treated with chemical, the samples were involved to rolling process. Heat treatment involved to 550C for 1 h. Surface topography and chemical analysis were studied by using light optical microscope and corrosion unit. Tafel plot, Nyquist plots results shows that corrosion rate was increased by increase in Methanol percentage. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
