The 5G and beyond wireless networks will be more dynamic and heterogeneous, which needs to work on multistrand waveforms. One of the most significant challenges in such a dynamic network, especially non cooperated cases, is the identification of particular modulation type, which the transmitter uses at the given time to decode the data successfully. This research proposes a modulation classification algorithm using the combination architectures of modified convolutional neural network. The proposed deep learning architecture is developed by combining the convolutional neural network, dense network, and long short-term memory network (LSTM), which is named as convolutional LSTM dense neural network (CLDNN). Moreover, the mean cumulative sum metric (MCS) is introduced in the pooling layer for improved classification accuracy. Dimensionality reduction through Principal Component Analysis is also applied to minimize the training time, so that the proposed architecture can be adopted for its practical usage. The simulation results prove that the presented CLDNN outperforms an ordinary CNN, while taking less training time. © 2020, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

An Energy-Efficient Cooperative Spectrum Sensing Strategy with Robustness Against Noise Uncertainty for Cognitive Radio Networks

Enhancing the throughput of cognitive radio network in the presence of malicious cognitive radio user (MCRU) is addressed in this paper. We have considered the impact of MCRU on the sensing performance and achievable throughput of secondary network during two phases, namely, sensing phase (SP) and secondary user transmission phase (SUTP), respectively. This impact is mitigated by employing cognitive radio (CR) users equipped with multiple receiving antennas. We have performed diversity combining and have formulated the optimization problems with solutions during SP and SUTP. Moreover, the method of estimating the channel between MCRU and CR receiver is integrated into the solution. Simulation results show that this method achieves 89% detection and 3.5 bits/s/Hz of achievable throughput, while maximal ratio combining technique offers only 22% and 0.4 bits/s/Hz, respectively, when MCRU is active with ten times stronger power than the primary user. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd

Enhancing the throughput of cognitive radio networks through malevolent presence

In this paper, we propose a robust spectrum sensing (SS) technique for cognitive radio receivers (CRRs) when a malicious CR user (MCRU) coexists in the network. The primary users (PUs) that we consider are the television (TV) broadcasters, who operate in an ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) band. Using multiple antennas of CRR, as a first step, we locate a narrower subband-within an UHF-TV range-at which the interference due to MCRU is least. Then, SS is implemented only at the chosen band, so that the detection of PU is not affected by the presence of MCRU. The finding of the apt band for SS is implemented through a table, which needs to know only the angle of arrival of signal from MCRU. We have shown the technique to estimate this angle of arrival as well. The simulation results show that the proposed method does not compromise the detection performance, unlike the energy detection scheme, which compromises severely when MCRU coexists. © 2016 IEEE.

Sensing UHF-TV Spectrum for Narrowband Cognitive Radios in a Malicious Presence

Improving Sensing and Throughput of the Cognitive Radio Network

The Spectrum Management schemes currently in use overlook the need for interference measurements at the receiver end. The negligence culminates in an underwhelming performance of the Cognitive Radio Network (CRN) due to the presence of hidden/exposed primary senders. Our aim was to implement the RAP framework for spectrum management in a cognitive Radio. The scheme chosen deems it a necessity to take into consideration the inaccuracy of spectrum sensing in order to achieve the desired optimal performance. Unlike the widely used schemes which solely depend on local interference measurements, the proposed probabilistic framework aims at enhancing the CRN good put by incorporating interference measurements performed at the receiver into theprotocol. Moreover, the spectrum management scheme, discussed in the study, makes most of the least exploitable spectral opportunities by relying on low power rate communication robust to interference. The issued spectrum access policy ensures fair distribution of spectral opportunity to its multiple secondary users. It, in contrast to the existing greedy spectrum access policies, prevents any user from monopolizing the available spectral opportunity as it is regulated and operated in a strictly probabilistic framework. It also diligently makes useful, provisions in the policy to ensure that every spectral opportunity, even while being exploited, appear available at all times to see to it that no Secondary User (SU) misidentifies the spectral opportunity as unavailable. © Maxwell Scientific Organization, 2014.

RAP Framework for Spectrum Management in Cognitive Radio

A novel algorithm for enhancing colour images is proposed. Since DWT is used in image compression and image compression reduces storage space, an algorithm is developed to work directly in DWT space. DWT separates image into high and low frequency components. High frequency components define contrast of an image. Enhancement is done in two steps namely local enhancement and global enhancement. Local enhancement is based on contrast measure and improves contrast. Global enhancement is needed for overall image quality improvement. HSV colour space is used of which V components will undergo enhancement, S component will undergo histogram equalization, and H remains the same for preserving the colour.
