There has been a growing concern about the performance measures based on traditional accounting information such as return on equity (ROE), return on capital employed (ROCE), return on net worth (RONW), earning per shares (EPS), net operating profit after taxes (NOPAT) and return on investment (ROI). These measures although widely used fail to capture the shareholders’ value creation/destruction as a result of management actions. The concept of economic value added (EVA) and market value added (MVA) have gained popularity all over the world particularly in the USA, the UK and European countries. EVA and MVA are finding acceptance as internal and external performance measures because these two measures are consistent with the organizational objective of shareholders’ value creation. Due to its popularity, a lot of research work has been conducted in the late 1990s covering diverse issues on EVA and MVA. In the light of the above, the present study made an attempt to calculate EVA as well as MVA and to analyze whether Apollo Tyres is creating or destroying shareholders’ wealth during the study period.

Productivity is one of the important measures which helps for growth and development of economy of the country. The productivity plays a crucial part in organizational achievement of excellence which is essential for dynamic society. Optimum productivity of a company depends on coordination between all inputs that yield maximum profitability with minimum effort. Hence the present study is focus on an objective of identify and compare the factors influencing the Productivity as well as Profitability Performance of select Public and Private sector banks in India. The sample consists of 20 Banks which were operating in India. The study period considered for the study is ten years from 2008-09 to 2017- 18. The methodology which is used in the present study is Correlation analysis which helps to know the relationship between the select variables and Regression analysis is used to analyse the impact of select independent variables such as Sales Per employee, value added per employee, Profit before tax per employee, employee cost to sales and employee cost to value added on dependent variables like Return on Assets, Return on Equity and Value added per fixed assets. Further Independent sample test is used to assess the relationship between Productivity and Performance measures of select Public and Private sector Banks in India. Thus, the results from correlation analysis indicate that almost all the independent variables except Sales per employee and employee cost to sales have significant relationship with dependant variables in both Public sector and private sector banks. The Regression result shows that Sales per employee is having significant negative impact on Return on Assets, return on equity and Value added per fixed assets. Independent samples test reveals that the Private sector banks are showing superior performance than Public sector banks.

Effectiveness of Yield Measures on Performance and Profitability of Selected Banks in India

On the 15th of April, 1912 the titanic witnessed a disaster resulting in the sinking of her passengers on the maiden voyage near North Atlantic. Even though it is a very long time since this maritime disaster took place, the idea behind what impacts each individual survival is still a great research attracting researcher’s attention. The approach taken in this paper is to utilize the publically available data set from website called Kaggle. Kaggle is a popular data science webpage that put together information of people in the titanic into a data set for the data mining competition: “Titanic: Machine Learning from Disaster”. The research and comparisons in this paper uses a few machine learning techniques and algorithms to analyse the data for classification and prediction of survivors. The prediction and efficiency of these algorithms depend greatly on data analysis and model. The techniques used to do so are Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, Gradient Boosting Machine.

Prediction of Survivors in the Titanic Cruise

Aims: This study aims at analysing the influence of some of the most important external factors (macro economic variables) on the stock prices particularly the banking stocks of India listed in stock exchanges of the country. Sample Design: Multistage design. Place and Duration of Study: Public and private sector banks of India listed in stock exchanges of the country for a 12 year period i.e. 2006-07 to 2017-18. Methodology: On the basis of market capitalisation the top five banks from each sector i.e. public and private are selected. The data of stock prices of these banks is collected from the annual reports of the banks. The data of the explanatory variables is collected from the reports of Central Statistics Office, financial journals etc. Results: The impact of the explanatory macroeconomic variables on the market prices of these banking stocks for the period is analysed with the help of suitable statistical techniques viz., Mean, Standard Deviation, correlation, and Multiple Regression Analysis. Conclusion: Some of the macroeconomic variables are influencing the stock prices of the banks.

Understanding where a company is in its life cycle is important. The sustainable growth rate (SGR) is an indicator of what stage a company is in, in its life cycle. The position often determines corporate finance objectives such as what sources of financing to use, dividend pay-out policies, or overall competitive strategy. The purpose of this study is to analyze the actual growth rate as well as SGR and investigate the overall effect of selected independent variables on SGR. © 2019 John Wiley &amp; Sons, Ltd.

A study on sustainable growth rate for firm survival

The objective of the research carried out is to understand the impact of selected economic variables (such as Crude Oil Price, GDP, Industrial Production, Exchange Rates, and Inflation) on credit rating of Indian companies.The sample comprises of 120 rating observations during the period 2012–2016 for a total of 24 companies of India.Measurement of central tendency – descriptive statistics is used where credit rating is used as dependent variable and five economic factors viz. Crude Oil Price, GDP, Industrial Production, Exchange Rates, and Inflation as the independent variables. Results from the analysis indicate that the credit rating responds in both linear, as well as nonlinear manner, to selected economic factors. Economic factors such as GDP, Industrial Production, and Exchange Rates have a linear relationship to credit rating, whereas Crude Oil price and Inflation have a non-linear impact upon the credit rating.

A study on economic factors affecting credit ratings of Indian companies

Purpose: The government has taken an initiative to improve the MBBS admission process in the country to eradicate the academic dishonesty and encourage the deserving candidates for MBBS enrolment. The Supreme Court has paved the way to hold the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), a common entrance test for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses, from the 2016-17 academic year onwards. This paper aims to focus on the contention raised by various stakeholders associated with it and examines the pass percentage of plus two State Board examinations in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and admission details for 2016 and 2017. Design/methodology/approach: The researchers adopted exploratory research. The researchers studied the medical admission process at national and global levels. They collected data of MBBS admission, NEET, State Board and CBSE plus two results and information from newspapers, website and magazine articles. Many experts published articles in newspapers. No study analysed data and made an exhaustive exploratory study. This motivates the researcher to do the same. Simple percentage, percentage change, correlation analysis and the sign test are used to determine whether the State Board or CBSE students get benefitted out of NEET to become medical professionals. Findings: There is no significant relationship between MBBS enrolment of students (both State Board and CBSE students) before and after the NEET was introduced. From correlation analysis, it is inferred that the pass percentage of students who studied under State Board and MBBS enrolment were lesser in 2017 than 2016. It is also inferred that many districts students’ enrolment in MBBS course have increased from 2016 to 2017. The researchers concluded that because of NEET, CBSE students got more enrolment in MBBS course in 2017 compared with State Board students in 2016. Research limitations/implications: The researchers found that the students with State Board examinations enrolled in lesser number for MBBS course than CBSE students in Tamil Nadu. There is a scope for improvement in designing and implementing NEET with the deliberations among different stakeholders involved with the medical education system, which will help in reducing the rampant corruption and, most importantly, pave the way for a selection based on merit in medical education. Possibly, this will also work as a safeguard to the sanctity of the medical profession in India and at the global level. Originality/value: The researcher collected data from newspapers, websites and journals. Many experts discuss about, for and against NEET. No one analysed the data. This is a unique article that has more statistical analysis and meaningful interpretations from analysis. This paper will be useful to the government at national and global levels to frame medical admission procedure and policies. © 2019, Emerald Publishing Limited.

NEET for medics: a guarantee of quality? An exploratory study

This work proposes a generalized excel based test automation framework for REST API testing using groovy script. Testing is an important process in software development process, which helps to find unknown errors, failure and bugs in a software application and increases quality of the software application. With the existing process of testing is manual, where the inputs are given manually and the actual outcome or output is validated for different test case scenarios. This manual testing leads to increase in time and effort of testing, as there will be different scenarios to be tested in which different test data has to be prepared to test a particular functionality. As the functionalities in an application changes or added up, over the software development phase, there is a need to test the old functionalities after and before, integrating the new or changed functionality to the existing system. This results in testing the already tested functionalities to test again manually, which increases effort and time for the testing process. The manual testing process has to be automated, so that the testing time, effort and money can be reduced. The test automation framework is implemented using a groovy compiling tool in which the functionalities such as, read the data from input test data excel file, make a REST API request, validate the data and writing the result to the excel file has been developed. Development of Test Automation Framework for REST API Testing

Influence of organic addition in the lime matrix on its mechanical and physical properties has been investigated. Results revealed that addition of organics in the lime matrix enhances the mechanical properties of the mortar significantly as it improves the binding strength between two consecutive lime particle in the mortar. Physical property results reveal loading of organics in the lime mortar decreases the pore size due to formation of weddellite element in the lime mortar, which fills the gap between two consecutive lime particle in the mortar. Results also reveal that the addition of organics does not reducing total porosity due to formation of large numbers of smaller size pores in the lime mortar. However, addition of organics enhances the strength of mortar. Curing studies reveal that mortar with higher curing days enhances the compressive strength of composites while lower curing reduces the performance of mortar due to lower carbonation rate. X-ray diffraction and FT-IR analysis has been used to confirm the new element formation in the organically modified lime mortar due to interaction of protein and carbohydrate with lime particle. © 2017 Elsevier Masson SAS

In that, globally, electronic payment (e-payment) systems has been growing recognition as well as it has the potential to provide more efficient and reliable delivery of cash payments than manual cash-in-envelope systems. The four electronic payment systems that are currently being used are Online Credit Card Payment System, Online Electronic Cash System, Electronic Cheque System and Smart Cards based Electronic Payment System. Determinants of M-commerce: A study on online M-commerce adopters

The paper attempts to understand the financial planning process, the attributes and its antecedence that define the financial behaviour of demographically different middle class families living as nuclear and joint families in the geographic limits of Odisha. This descriptive study is an applied financial behaviour research, that employs behavioural theory - The theory of planned behavior (TPB)- to elaborate motivation and behaviour towards financial planning, to achieve the financial goals set. Disguised Survey on 204 families, selected using convenient sampling from two strata - joint &amp; nuclear families-was conducted. Structured questionnaire was administered to collect data. The collected data was statistically analysed for its relations and variance on the attributes ranging from random casual awareness to high investment affinity. The paper discusses issues relevant to predicting positive financial behaviour. Comparison on the behaviour of retail investors belonging to two different family structures in expected to highlight the factors that affect financial decisions-beyond the demographics and socio-economic factors. © 2017 Serials Publications Pvt.
