It is necessary to extract various attributes from an image especially in the field of neurological pathology. Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI is a popularly used scanning technique for soft tissues like brain as it provides a detailed view of the tissue. It requires highly accurate segmentation algorithms to cluster a brain image into its constituent tissue regions. In consideration to this necessity, fuzzy set theory proves to be suitable to achieve tissue clustering on the brain MR images. However, the need to obtain better segmentation makes clustering efficiency more demanding. This fact encourages us to propose an advanced clustering algorithm known as Improved Rough Possibilistic Type-2 Fuzzy C Means that includes Skull Stripping and Median Filtering to enhance the performance. The proposed algorithm addresses various issues experienced by several other clustering algorithms and its superiority over them is quantitatively validated through authentic performance metrics like Jaccard Index, Accuracy and Adjusted Rand Index. © 2018 IEEE.

An Improved Type 2 Fuzzy C Means Clustering for MR Brain Image Segmentation Based on Possibilistic Approach and Rough Set Theory

Firms face bankruptcy risk when they are unable to meet the principal and interest obligations towards the bondholders. The bankruptcy costs arising out of this risk put pressure on the firm value and also affect the stockholders. To predict the corporate bankruptcy, Altman Z Score, which is based on firms’ liquidity, profitability, earnings ability, market value and asset turnover is considered appropriate. The current study is an evaluation of relationship between corporate strategy adopted and bankruptcy risk experienced by the firms, categorized as concentrated and diversified firms. Since corporate strategy applied alters asset composition, which in turn influence their financial leverage thus allowing management understand the choice of strategy and its influence on bankruptcy risk. Hence, Altman Z score methodology is applied on select large manufacturing firms that earned more than 100 million in revenue during the financial years 2009-10 through 2015-16 categorized as concentrated and diversified firms based on Herfindahl index. Results show that concentrated firms face slightly lower bankruptcy risk than diversified firms. This may be because concentrated firms fare better than diversified firms on performance, sales and profitability. © IAEME Publication.

AbstractBackground Epilepsy is one of the most prevalent neurological disorders. Around 50 million people worldwide suffer from Epilepsy, 85% of them are from the developing countries. It is a most significant as well as common brain disorder worldwide. Sodium channel alpha 1 subunit gene (SCN1A) is most commonly mutated the gene in different forms of epilepsy.Objective To screen the genomic damage and SCN1A gene mutation in patients with epilepsy.Methods To screen the genetic instability of SCN1A gene using Buccal micronucleus cytome (BMCyt) assay and molecular analysis with Single Strand Conformation Polymorphism (SSCP) technique was used to observe the variations in SCN1A gene.Results We found significant differences in buccal cells of patients than controls. So, we can interpret that BMCyt assay would be a minimally invasive biomarker to detect DNA damage and mutation screening in the SCN1A gene with SSCP technique showed no variation in epileptic patients.Conclusion These data confirmed that there is certainly DNA damage and no mutations in the SCN1A gene; hence the genetic instability has occurred in epileptic patients.

Evaluation of DNA damage and mutation screening of exon 26 of SCN1A gene in patients with epilepsy

The Negative Bias Temperature Instability (NBTI) is one of the serious reliability issues of the p-type MOS based transistors. The downscaling of gate oxide thickness to reestablish the gate voltage controllability over the channel adversely affects the reliability of the devices and circuits. The multigate transistors such as FinFET which shows superior device scalability over the planar MOSFET are also severely affected by the NBTI effects in the nanoscale regime. The time to digital converter (TDC) is a signal conditioning circuit which is used to convert the specified time interval between two events into the digital codes. The proper functioning of the TDC is based on accuracy of the propagation delay of its designed delay lines. The degradation of the delay in the delay lines due to NBTI lead to improper code conversions. The Vernier delay line TDC is designed using the 30 nm Triple Gate FinFET technology with high resolution of 10 ps. The effect of NBTI degradation over the FinFET based Vernier delay line TDC in the critical nodes is analyzed. The occurrence of offset error, increase in the non linearity and degradation of resolution are observed due to the NBTI degradation. © 2017 IEEE.

Impact of NBTI induced variations on FinFET based Vernier delay line time to digital converter

This paper proposes to find out the differences in Debt Capacity of diversified and concentrated firms in the Indian context, from FY 2009-10 to FY 2015-16. Sales based Hirfindahl Index is used to differentiate firms as diversified and concentrated firms. The factors that determine the debt capacity such as Asset tangibility, Firm size, Market to book ratio and Profitability are used to find the differences in leverage of diversified and concentrated firms and applied Cross sectional regression analysis. The results confirm the earlier findings on debt capacity and diversified firms have 1 to 2 percent more to explain the variation in leverage than the concentrated firms. © Serials Publications Pvt. Domestic savings of a nation determine the strength of an economy. Over a decade, savings behaviour of individuals in small cities and towns has influenced the gross domestic savings of nations across the globe. This changing savings pattern has an influence on the investment patterns as well. Hence, to understand this, a study was conducted in a Z category city - Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The study aimed to understand the drift in savings and investment patterns, awareness about the modern means of savings and investment options, and how effective is the role of investment advisors in instrument selection. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire that was administered to the residents of Vellore city. The results were tested with statistical tools like analysis of variance (ANOVA) and chi-square. The results revealed that individuals of the city were quite aware of the difference between savings and investments, irrespective of their demographic aspects. However, proper guidance is needed, for which investment advisors need to take measures. In addition, similar studies need to be conducted at several places across India, and effective measures, such as implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and such others need to be promoted to improve the general public's financial inclusion process in the Indian money market.

With the increase in the resolution of images, arises the need to compress these images effectively without much loss, for easy storage and transmission. Sparse matrices are matrices that have majority of their elements as zeroes, which brings in the possibility of storing just the non-zero elements in a space efficient manner using various formats. Images, which are essentially matrices, if somehow expressed as sparse matrices, can be similarly stored. The rectangular segmentation is a method that can be used to do so. In this paper, we analyze the space complexity of various storage formats for benchmark matrices and the suitability of these formats to compress images using rectangular segmentation method. © 2014 IEEE.
